I wanted to join the military, and my parents bargained for college. My mom was a Clinton liberal, and my dad was a hardcore Clinton-hating conservative. Dad would say things, then Mom would call me over and explain why Dad is wrong. I got Fox news when Dad was home, and CNN when Mom was home alone.

I got to college with a very neutral view because of my upbringing. Hearing Obama speak, and then seeing the majority of my peers fawn over him, was the red pill of my lifetime. And I didn't even know I was being red pilled. I was just aghast that people could believe a word this man? was saying! At that point I began 8 years of nihilism and isolation, preparing to become a martial arts teacher in some other country. I resolved myself to, "Well, Rome fell, all great empires fall."

College is a very dangerous place. I believe that the balance of political opinions I was raised with saved me from becoming the braindead Obamabots that all of my peers were!

Same for me. Mom voted Democrat just cuz she was sposed to and dad was hardcore right wing (he was even onto the uniparty bullshit back when Bush Sr was Pres). Luckily I was never neutral because dad taught me all about socialism/communism from the get go.

Heh...the world is a dangerous place; we are all dangerous in our own ways. My adult children became quite the little rebels after leaving home too; really got up in my face and their dad's face too quite a few times (we're a passionate, fiery people; they were/are still young; it was to be expected). They didn't/don't go to college -- they got their attitudes...in the military (and trust me, some of the tangents they went off on -- let's just say some people really do think Starship Troopers would be a good model for society...at least when they are being young and passionate and fiery with Mom and Dad). You can pick up ideas/ideology while you're young and impressionable from everywhere...eventually you either succumb to them (because nobody taught you to stand on your feet and think for yourself) or you...stand on your feet and think for yourself. You probably turned out ok because you did have to do that balancing act...but a lot of your peers were the way they were not because they were bad people, but because they were so sheltered and naive! They had always been taught to be "nice" and had never had to think for themselves.
