Heh...the world is a dangerous place; we are all dangerous in our own ways. My adult children became quite the little rebels after leaving home too; really got up in my face and their dad's face too quite a few times (we're a passionate, fiery people; they were/are still young; it was to be expected).
They didn't/don't go to college -- they got their attitudes...in the military (and trust me, some of the tangents they went off on -- let's just say some people really do think Starship Troopers would be a good model for society...at least when they are being young and passionate and fiery with Mom and Dad).
You can pick up ideas/ideology while you're young and impressionable from everywhere...eventually you either succumb to them (because nobody taught you to stand on your feet and think for yourself) or you...stand on your feet and think for yourself. You probably turned out ok because you did have to do that balancing act...but a lot of your peers were the way they were not because they were bad people, but because they were so sheltered and naive! They had always been taught to be "nice" and had never had to think for themselves.
