It was probably necessary at that time. Not something we ever want to have to do again but it was necessary. Ultimately costing fewer lives than had we let the war continue as it had been. and they would have happily nuked us if they had had the capability.
We can debate, but we cannot change what was done in the past.
People did not know the atomic weapons that well back then. From today's perspective, WMDs are unfathomable. Just watch a youtube video for B83, 1 megatonne thermonuclear blast, and imagine a modern war where both sides are exchanging thermonuclear warheads. And radioactive fallout for the survivors.
We have no moral right to apply today's judgement to Hiroshima/Nagasaki. It is, at the same time, hypocritical to rationalize 1945 atomic bombings. If you can rationalize 1945 bombings, then I bet, somewhere in China they can prepare a good memo rationalizing a preemptive nuclear strike on the USA against the civilian population.
I am with you all a lot of the time - celebrating nuclear war in any way is not a place we want to be/go IMO.

This is exactly how Marx thought. The ends justify the means... Very dangerous rabbit hole
