as a Hispanic american let me say: how could you object to a character who portrays Mexicans in a positive light? Speedy was like a superhero. Sure there were some stereotypes in the cartoon, but you're barking up a ridiculously slippery slope. Speedy was cool. Don't hate on him.

Because white leftists think that a Mexican accent sounds stupid, and they wonder why anyone would take pride in a character that sounds like a stupid Mexican. So they assume it's racist, because all Mexicans should sound like white people who are "normal" and not racist.

You see the same shit on all the "diverse" shows the left comes up with. Every single "diverse" character is just a woke white cultured person with darker skin. You never see a black person actually acting black, or a Mexican acting Mexican. You see them all acting like white people. Culture to leftists is food and clothes, and that's it.

Notice it's White leftists that come up with all this "unconscious bias" shit and hear all the racist dog whistles. They're describing themselves. Everyone else is like, "What the fuck are you talking about?"

My wife is "latina" or "hispanic" or whatever you want to call the mixed race peoples from Mexico. My kid is a mix between us. Today my kid translated what his Tia said to him in Spanish because I didn't understand. ("You'll fall down") I know for a fact my kid would love Speedy Gonzalez if he watched him, because he's already starting to understand that there are two different cultures going on here. One day some leftist retard is going to say some shit about white people and my son is going to stand up for his dad - and himself. I really think he's going to have a hard life because of all the leftist bullshit, probably end up ostracized by both cultures.

That was a really interesting read. I never thought about it like that, but you have a great point.

It's the whole identity politics, dividing people into groups, and victim vs oppressor. I mean it's so ridiculously childish and stupid. It's a danger to society it you ask me. BLM is sowing racism, they're not eradicating it in the slightest. Instead they are making everything about race. Everything is a race issue and should be seen through the lens of race. And you know why? Because plain socialism doesn't sell, people don't want any of it, but by turning their bullshit fairy tale of "The poor people vs the evil capitalist pigs" into a race issue, they are guild-tripping people into being reluctant to criticize it. Oh so you are against the expansion of the welfare state? That's because you are racist and don't care about people of color!

so I am actually mixed, puerto rican and english/irish. you're right it can be difficult, because sometimes it feels like you're not really accepted by either group. i also think that being mixed race can make you even more aware of how ridiculous all this identity politics stuff is. when you don't fit into either category, you're kind of like, what good are these categories anyway?

its the white leftists who have no black or hispanic friends and have probably never even driven through a poor neighborhood that are the worst. you are so right about them.

When I lived in Texas, I used to see younger hispanic guys with tricked out rides that had Speedy decals on them all over.

One dude had an absolutely mind-blowing Mustang with a huge super-charger and had speedy on the side of the cowling for it.

It's mostly privileged white folks who never had to work for to survive the end of the month, that are going around wanting to enact social justice. It's a bloody insult what they are doing.

1
Rockonanon 1 point ago +1 / -0

100% this

3
MetalRiddle 3 points ago +3 / -0

Short answer: because they're racist.

Longer answer: It's a witch-hunt mentality. They gain kudos by taking down the next and bigger target. They have absolutely no interest in the intention behind something or if it's actually hurtful. Some sort of reference to Mexico is good enough to be classed as racist for them. Take for another example Antifa going ape shit over a basketball 3 pointer poster visible in the Portland courthouse. Nevermind it's a a sports poster or depicts a a black man. OK hand sign has been declared racist and you get good boy points for pretending to be outraged.

I learned how to pronounce Mexico from speedy.

nmipede 30 points ago +30 / -0

I learned how to pronounce "Guadalajara". I also learned a valuable lesson from Slowpoke Rodriguez that a gun is a great equalizer. https://www.facebook.com/combinesharvestersthreshers/videos/slow-poke-rodriguez-he-pack-a-gun-cartoon-fun/223973048750694/

Slowpoke Rodriguez

This takes me back, bro. Loved Looney Tunes when I was a kid. I always wished I could get some of that cool gear from the ACME catalog like Wyle E. Coyote did.

What? You mean they listened to and acted upon the Hispanic community's opinions, and didn't dismiss them as ill-informed (read: stupid) RAAAAAAAAYCISTS and "white supremacists"?! What is Lefty Clown World coming to?

Thing is, caricatures of ethnicities are very rarely if ever are offensive to their respective ethnos carriers as they are based on the stereotypes which people find hilarious because they are intimately familiar with them.

9
Futuramawe 9 points ago +9 / -0

It actually depends if the character is portrayed as a good guy or a bad guy. Back before everything was about racism people actually judged things based on HOW they were portrayed instead of just assuming everything was racist.

Speedy Gonzales was a badass character. Part of my childhood!

TheTexan 12 points ago +12 / -0

Yep, when my kids were little I downloaded all the Bugs Bunny, Looney Tunes, Pink Panther, Speedy Gonzales, Roadrunner cartoons that I could find. Kids loved them. I still do.

When I was a kid I remember collecting Frito Bandito erasers that went on top of your pencil. They've ghosted Frito Bandito now.

4
AsaNisiMAGA 4 points ago +4 / -0

I had those erasers! They were cool and they smelled really nice.

2
TheTexan 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, I miss the good old days sometimes

2
AsaNisiMAGA 2 points ago +2 / -0

My mom didn't let us have chips (or sugary cereal) for every day food. We had them in the cupboard. But we only got to eat them at picnics or cookouts on weekends or whatever, not as part of a normal school day. So getting a cool prize from some Fritos or Cap'n Crunch or whatever was a YUGE deal. I wish I still had all those prizes. Some came in the box but some of them you needed to send in a lot of box tops to get.

2
TheTexan 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, I remember sending in box tops or like a dollar and a quarter for something. I think I may still have my Quisp gun somewhere

6

You should hang out with more Mexicans. I'd take 10,000 Mexicans over 100 blacks. And both over 10 Muslims.

Mexicans are mixed race people. "Hispanic/Latino" is not a race. It's a mix of White European and Amerindian (East Asian).

2
Langtath 2 points ago +2 / -0

Mi comentario anterior no es un insulto, es un chiste. Yo soy latino, y a mi no me importa si eres Mejicano o negro; solo si eres patriota.

Not as cool as Slowpoke Rodriguez, he pack a gun!!

8

Its because they look down on accents and other cultures.

They want minorities that talk and act like california liberals. Talking like Apu from simpsons is insulting to them, because they truly have disdain for minorities.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in my wife's hometown has a meal called the speedy Gonzalez. It's a taco, enchilada, with beans and rice. It's delicious. Also they're Chilango and don't really give a damn about anything other than making awesome food.

3
watchingindisbelief 3 points ago +3 / -0

Virtually every Mexican restaurant in the country has that meal and it's called the Speedy Gonzalez.

As an Aussie please dont try to drop the Tassie devil. He is like the only Aussie cartoon character apart from the retarded boot guy in The Simpsons.

Never been offended by the stereotypes. I think they're hilarious. My kids were watching a cartoon named "Chowder" one day and the episode was called "Weekend at Schnitzel's". It had a whole bunch of stereotypes and I couldn't stop laughing. Especially, the Mexican Chuck E. Cheese knockoff character aptly named Carlito Con Queso. LOL

Quartersawnwhiteoak2 3 points ago +3 / -0

Slowpoke Rodriguez rules the constuction sites in Texas cities. Speedy works in the rural areas so I'm told.

Speedy was a mouse from Mexico, he didn't represent the mexican people. Even if he did, he was cool and was always the hero. Pepe Le Pew represented the French and that's why he stank! xD

That topic is actually what got young me to listen to Rush Limbaugh as he was covering it quite a bit.

2

These are the same mental midgets who thought Trader Joe products were racist. If you sell Mexican food and label it as Mexican, it's time to clutch pearls and faint dead away.

It's funny how the left is banning any packaging or cartoons that have non white people in them. It's almost like they are racist.

1
MetalRiddle 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is just phase 2 of all of this.

Phase 1) Demand removal of all black/ethnic characters from all media and branding.

Phase 2) Complain about lack of representation of black/ethnic characters in all media and branding.

Rinse and repeat I guesss...

1
Erlik_Khan 1 point ago +1 / -0

Hahaha that's funny. I was just helping my Mexican wife clear her childhood stuff out of her mom's home and she had Speedy Gonzales stuffed toys. He's no Pepe La Pew but still a fantastic character.

tomkat2104 1 point ago +1 / -0

Look at that heroic stance! You don't fuck with Speedy!
