They work for somethings but not covid. I started out thinking masks were a good idea but now they know more about the virus and it is not going to do anything for this. The microns of covid are small enough to even get through an n95. So they are not doing very much to prevent the spread. If you are sick and know it a mask might help you not spread it a little but they have done studies and asymptomatic people don't spread it. So there is no reason a healthy person needs a masks, they actually may be spreading it more by constantly touching things and then their face and adjusting their mask. It offers barely any protection and at the same time is bad for your health. I see lawsuits for workers forced to work in them coming.
Someone explained it like this. If you can still smell a fart through underwear and thick jeans a virus with even smaller microns are not going to be protected by a cloth mask thinner then that. If covid had a smell, we would all know the masks do not work for this virus.
And if you wear a body condom at all times you'll reduce your chances of getting HIV/Aids greatly. Doesn't make it a good idea or policy.... even though body condoms do work.
if you don't believe in masks, ask for a mask-less surgery ;)

The article talks about hospital staff and studies. There are also studies with surgeons and how they need to switch masks very often during surgery.
