Teachers start at $55K with benefits right out of college in my city, and get more than 3 months of vacation. $55,000 / 39 weeks / 40 hrs a week = $35.25 per hour with NO experience and a 4 year degree that you can get a grant to pay 100%.
I'm in the tech industry and I don't make that much per hour. I also do NOT have job security. Care to comment?
They don't work 8 hour days- close to 10 (and longer if you coach or volunteer for an activity). You don't show up at the bell and leave at the bell. It doesn't work that way. There's not a 3 month vacation. It's closer to
10 weeks and there are mandatory (generally unpaid inservices) that are 2-3 weeks long- 8am-4pm.

They get paid extra for coaching, extra for driver's ed, extra for summer school, etc.
I admit it's a hard job but the fact is it's a part-time job.
