There's overlap, but I think it's the same people who were "gay" because of the attention that gay marriage and gay people were getting through media. (Attention seeking)

I will also add that the media representation of gay people has always been wrong, seemingly intentionally. The average gay people aren't into drag shows or fashion contests. They're into video games and music.
