I may be wrong here, but can't the states opt out of the unemployment expansion, thereby not having to take on the "burden" of their portion of $100 per week.
Trump: "Here's a bunch of free money, but you need to chip in." State: "No thanks." Trump: "No problem."
It boggles my mind that these governors can't comprehend that this free money will stimulate their states' economies, thereby bringing in more revenue. The Dims always see the pie as a fixed size. Grow the pie and your portion becomes larger.
Yup, if they choose not to do it they are in a world of political hurt though. Can you imagine hearing that people in just 1 state over from you are getting that unemployment money, but since your Governor didn't want to pay, you got none? Democrats backed into a corner on this one.
That's the problem. It's election season and Blue States think a shitty economy will hurt President Trump.
Also, Blue States don't care about slowly rebuilding their revenues ...when they can hope for a massive Federal bailout instead.
