I knew a young couple that lived in Seattle, met them prior to 2016. Nice enough folks. White. The guy had a high-paying job, the girl was running her own business and was fairly successful at it, and they had their own place and owned and managed a rental property. So, not dumb, not broke, and with some skin in the game at least.
After GEOTUS' election, they became so addled with TDS I gradually dropped the relationship. When shit started to go down with CHAZ, I decided that I should be a decent human being and check in on them, seeing as how they weren't complete strangers to me.
HA. They were 100% for it. Fuck the cops, yay CHAZ, black lives matter, Durkan rules. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Couldn't get a word in edgewise. When I asked what they would do if there was a riot on their street and either their home or their rental property got burned down, they dismissed me saying that 1) it wouldn't happen to them and 2) there's always insurance and 3) property damage means nothing when black people are expressing their justified rage at the system that murdered and exploited them for centuries.
I felt myself getting dumber by the second and hung up before I forgot how to tie my shoes. But this gives you the idea. These weren't broke-ass hippies, or thugs, or junkies, or college students who think that "why don't we just make everything free for everyone". These were two alleged adults with skin in the game.
I know a couple in Seattle like this also, and my reaction was the same as yours.
In my case, this was a business owner who relocated to Seattle with his wife. Reading your post brings me joy because I know I'm not alone. Some people have really lost their minds, it is unbelievable to witness.
