Just so everyone knows; Norway is not in the EU and never has been. They are in some kind of trade block that includes the EU, but Brussels doesn't make their laws.
Interestingly, the reason they declined not to join is because Norway has a tremendous amount of oil wealth and they've invested it wisely and now have a stupid amount of money in a trust fund that they hand out to their citizens every year....like Alaska, only a lot more. They were concerned that the EU would eventually come along and take it if they joined....which is almost certainly correct.
The larger the EU's money woes and issues with maintaining control the less likely it is that Norway will be allowed to remain outside of the EU. It wouldn't surprise me if they were "requested" to join in the next year or so.
