The less killing one has to see and do the better. It leaves scars, even when it's necessary. On mass scales, the scars are aggregate, destabilizing to cultures and the family.

This goes towards the "weak men create hard times" paradigm. Scars on a society are bad, but a society with no scars gets us where we are now
