At the age of 37, after he already had a wife and kid, he decided he was a woman trapped in a man's body, had what I will gingerly call "bottom surgery" demanded his wife enter into a lesbian relationship with him, and announced he is not Democrat but "Anti-Republican".
So... in order to go the other way you have to be crazy enough to cut your own balls off.

Just to stab at it - his brother isn’t anti-republican, he’s miserable and has flipped his whole life on its head in an attempt to escape that. Probably sucked in by the affirmations of a few unique new friends or an especially cross-worthy psychologist.
