Wife and I were sitting in our car and saw some lady in her car that was plastered with Disney Signature Plus Pass-holder decals on it. Tons of Disney stuff. Her windshield had a massive crack in it. So glad to see her priorities were in order. Those passes cost, on average, $1400+. This seems to be a common occurrence with members of the Cult of the Mouse - they tend to throw all of their money into all things Disney at the expense of proper money management.
Edit: Just asked my wife about it. Apparently that Plus Passport is $1500 per person (adult or child) and that’s not even the most expensive. There is a pass that works on both coasts that costs like $2300/person. At that point, you might as well just go on a nice tropical vacation and save thousands per year. Disney is so overrated - back when I went it wasn’t anything special. I had more fun at Six Flags growing up and the only place I really enjoyed was Epcot (because I’m a fucking nerd).

I used to be a Passholder. I live 45 minutes from the parks, so I'd go every weekend. I ran the math, and before wuflu, I paid around $11 a visit. Can't disagree with you saying the parks are overrated, and Disney has definitely turned to cancer, especially in the last 3-5 years, but not everyone who's a fan of what Disney used to mean is just bad with money or a moron. For me and my wife, it was pretty cost-effective entertainment.

Distance-wise, this area is nowhere near Disney. Most of these people here buy the passes but go once, maybe twice if they are lucky yearly. I’d understand if said person lived even a few hours away - but out here it’s more of a look at me I have a Disney pass I’ll use once a year! type of deal than a I’m going to get my money’s worth out of this pass. If one were to fly, they might as well set two days for travel, if they were to drive, the same. Train? It takes 2 days each way.

The way they shoehorn romance into action movies comes to mind. The target audience for explosions doesn’t care, we want to see explosions. I would not say the early animators were evil, as they probably had no idea what they were contributing to and were working with the best intentions and following their passions. My mom, while conservative, is very pro-gay, just because she grew up with a gay best friend, and now, in her 60s, has a fair amount of gay friends (they're all around her age, and also conservative). She also has a gay son (my brother) and is still against gay marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman -- simple, and it doesn't mean you're intolerant of gay people, as my example w/ my mother shows. Additionally, even my brother is against it, and has no plans of marrying his significant other.
However, I will add this: I'm also against government getting involved in marriage at all... but they have. Because of that, married couples are extended certain benefits (typically relating to taxes, owning property, etc). And because of that, I do at least think something should be done to at least afford gay couples the same benefits... a kind of civil union, maybe (the kind Trump spoke about and publicly supported in an interview sometime around 2000). Doesn't require same-sex marriage, but at least something that accounts for the fact that a gay couple is living and operating together the same way a hetero married couple is and thus should at least not be denied similar benefits w/ taxes, etc
