It's made in jest using a little bit of plausibility, considering L Ron was friends with Jack Parsons and Aleister Crowley.
One went on to NASA fame, One went on to worship Lucifer and the other started the church of scientology.
It wouldn't surprise me if [Jehovah's Witnesses are directed by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses, a group of elders in Warwick, New York, United States, which establishes all doctrines] those elders knew something about something impending. Same goes for the elders who initially started Amish/Mennonite communities.
