Why does anybody need a license to run a gym? Time for these gym owners for repeatedly defy the license requirement.

Most businesses in a city, need a city license to operate. Thats how they collect your taxes. They call them registration fees, licenses, permits to operate, etc. Different names but all the same, government taking your money and "allowing" you to open a business. A huge scam really.

Yes, it is a huge scam. It's one thing if it's just registration and a fee/taxes (some cities actually do provide some valuable services that sane business owners want), but a license that the city can choose whether to issue and can choose to revoke, is a whole different matter. Sure, for certain types of businesses, it can be reasonable, e.g. bars, that often become serious nuisances that prevent nearby businesses and residents from peaceful enjoyment of their own property/business, and are often kept in line by the threat of losing their liquor license. But a gym?

They claimed in the article the gym needed additional sanctions and relief to be coerced into compliance. Kinda like paying someone to shut up? Kinda like $1200 to stay home and shut up?

Good for him, keep fighting this. In our state, our city is shut down tighter than a drum. Yet you can hop on a plane, head down south for the weekend in the same state, shop, go out an eat, work out, then fly home. Yet we cant open a gym safely?
