Yet nobody is going to stand up against that ruling, this is where that story ends, because we live in a time of keyboard warriors.

We need to begin protesting in mass for this type of shit. Enough is enough. Here in Western NY, all formal gyms are closed, yet I am allowed to go to Jiu Jitsu class six times a week and drill/spar as much as I want to, and Cuomo approves of it. Their rules and morals are so shallow it's nauseating.

18
riverc 18 points ago +18 / -0

mass protesting doesn't do anything. Targeted legal action may. Maybe even call up the totem pole... you know, that big white house

8
Tiquortoo 8 points ago +8 / -0

The reason people protest and ultimately riot is because the legal system takes time and money and is designed to support the status quo. Which is usually good thing. The court is system is flawed in terms of fixing oppression of any kind.

6
riverc 6 points ago +6 / -0

rioting is not caused by those things, but by being given permission to riot. You'll find very little rioting in truly oppressed societies, like Soviet Russia. When a government is truly oppressive, riots and other actions of that sort are very ineffective. It's a law of power.

For example, do you think the rioting currently happening is because blacks in the cities are 'oppressed'? Or because they are poor, violent, and being given a pass? Do you think their rioting will end the problems for which they decided to riot? The answers here are obvious. Choose effective political action, if you must choose political action.

1
Tiquortoo 1 point ago +1 / -0

People making excuses to riot is not the same as being oppressed. You connected the two, not me. There is a long history of rioting, and effective violent confrontation in truly oppressed societies. It's in the margins that it goes astray.

We have been trying since April to organize mass protests but unfortunately here in The People's Republic of NJ, the libs and communists outnumber us and the best we can do is 500 people to a statewide rally. No, we need to conduct our fight in a courtroom.

What makes you think those two gym owners are gonna quit now? Did you read the article? They're even quoted as saying "we're prepared to lose every battle to win the war."

This story isn't over.

5
crash7863 5 points ago +5 / -0

Smith says nothing warrants the business to be shut down.

"We've all heard these public officials say 'science and data'...We are so confident in our process and in our safety protocol that if you can show us the science and data that proves Atilis Gym in Bellmawr poses more of a threat to the general public than any other place and should remain shut down, we will happily shut our doors," said Smith in a video posted to Instagram.

Smith says he will not back down.

"We are prepared to lose every single battle along the way to win the war," he said.

The gym owner is standing up to that.

Still need a license to operate, even if your services are free --- not that i agree, but government has done a much better job closing loopholes lately.

My state has very large covid FAQ poster just to state no Mac mask exemptions for kids, medical, it religious reasons... The business should accommodate with online/curbside rather than let you in without a mask

12

Right, so blacks are allowed to eat at my restaurant, they just have to go around back to the pickup spot by the dumpsters where we do curbside pickup. Oh I mean, people who don't wear masks

What is the logic supporting Bellmawr's action, if the underlying "law" is NOT legal?

97
deleted 97 points ago +97 / -0
65
PhilipeNegro 65 points ago +65 / -0

The word "law" is very fluid in NJ, as everyone from your local cop and mayor to the "freeholder" (some retarded version of a state rep) and county judge are on the take that streams from the governor's office.

If you are protected by the person above you, you can literally do and claim almost anything. And it happens all the time.

Example: there's a man in a popular resort town that owns a very popular deli, but works for the city public works as a grunt in the off-season. That's his contract. So what does he do? He doesn't collect a paycheck from his million+ dollar business because they live in an apartment upstairs, bills everything as an expense, and collects unemployment during the summer, while working full-time at the business.

Now, the only way he'd really get fucked is if someone above him in the union or city hall decided to make a stink to the labor commission, otherwise it's just an investigation the LC isn't into pursuing. Since he's a good egg and looks the other way with other schemes he witnessed people pull, nobody gives him a problem, and he siphons off tens of thousands every year being "seasonally unemployed". He's done it for decades.

That's New Jersey, in a nutshell.

33

1
PhilipeNegro 1 point ago +1 / -0

True, it's so rude to Morgan Freeman

6
Scroon 6 points ago +6 / -0

If you are protected by the person above you, you can literally do and claim almost anything.

This is exactly how and why everything works like it does. If you've got a corrupt person at top, you'll have corruption all the way down. And if you've got a good person at top, stuff will only be good ontil until you hit a layer of corruption, then everyone under that person will be corrupt, apathetic, or incompetent.

You'll find good workers, but rarely any good people with any kind of decision making power or influence will exist in mamagement.

23
VetforTrump 23 points ago +23 / -0

Justify? They didn't. Most business licenses are privileged and they don't need any real good reason to take them. I say let them take them and open without one. Cut em out of the picture

18
Data 18 points ago +18 / -0

You better post armed security at the doors. The city won't take kindly to your business operating without a license. They'll send their uniformed thugs to shut you down. Again.

That's how.

Did they also arrest the people that tampered with and contaminated the water supply of this business, a fact which was incidentally cited in a demand to shutdown due to a lack of safety? Oh wait, that crime was committed by the city.

Tyrants, not law-makers or mayors. And health is the last concern of any of these people. Ordering millions of dollars of damage be committed against lawful people and their business interests should be treated like any other instance of this crime, with the perps going to prison.

26

7
latinolizards4trump 7 points ago +7 / -0

10
SemperFree 10 points ago +10 / -0

The game now should be keeping the gym open and protesting at the houses of these council members and the Governor. Is what the first amendment is for, redress grievances to your Government.

Unfortunately, freedom loving right thinking folks do not tend to organize. Or maybe supporters are silent due to the Tryanny evident in NJ.

I miss the Tea Party.

7
glow-operator-2-0 7 points ago +8 / -1

Vote consistently for conservatives.

Vote against all bond measures locally (this is to force the government to remain as small as possible).

Organize conservatives in your local neighborhood / voting district to vote in blocs (like the Democrats). The only difference here, is that you will not be changing the votes of people, using fake ballots, etc.

Detail the histories of candidates (your local ballot) and spread the word on the good boys & girls to back (judges, council members, people elected to boards, etc.).

The long game is complicated, hard, and difficult to win, which is why a lot of us don't play. If we don't play it, we lose it.

The thing here that should piss people off is that there's a fucking permit required to operate a gym.

23

16
MaxineWaters4Prez 16 points ago +16 / -0

You need a permit to open any business, which is ridiculous.

13
GoldenEagle1776 13 points ago +13 / -0

Permits for businesses and licenses for jobs is nothing more than a way for the government to hold us ransom and be able to only let their people do what they want them to. Fuck these bastards.

9
redstampede 9 points ago +9 / -0

I want to see "right-to-operate" enshrined in the Constitution, and upheld by a bench of originalists who make Clarence Thomas look like RBG.

7
Keiichi81 7 points ago +7 / -0

Your permit is called the US Constitution.

Fuck this council. I hope the owners tell them to shove it and continue to stay open. Let them send the cops to arrest them yet again. If they try to fine them, refuse to pay it. Take this shit all the way to the SCOTUS if need be.

38

7
N900mixalot 7 points ago +7 / -0

The real claim here is property rights and due process rights. "Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is a set of essential ideals but the right to property is the technical one here.

Their property rights were arbitrarily violated by a retaliatory government that issued and enforced unjustified and overbroad regulations and deprived them of their property interest in their business.

If Walmart and bars can be open there is no reason gyms, have to be closed.

They'll win this but it's going to take a while.

Sadly not a thing confined to America. With even conservative governments getting increasingly pushed left in policy. The virus really could not have come at a worse time for the western world.
