folks y'all are forgetting the Original Sin of the mozilla foundation.

remember Brendan Eich? current CEO of Brave Browser, former CEO of Mozilla? he was run out of town, forced to resign, when they found out that he donated a thousand dollars to California Proposition 8 (against legalising gay marriage).

thought control has always been their Master Objective. glad to see them suffer.

113
Seanp12 113 points ago +114 / -1

That's why I quit using Firefox, when it was once my primary browser. I use Brave, now, but I didn't know that Eich was their CEO. That's a happy surprise.

like IE, the only use Firefox has now is if you are web developer and need to support it.

Not just bloat, they keep introducing shitloads of bugs. I haven't found a version more recent than FF40 (forty) that functions without constantly crashing.

That sounds like something on your end, or one of your addons, or you're visiting some strange sites. Not to defend them, but I always have the newest version and it never crashes

how do you get the android brave browser to block youtube ads?

6

Would like to know as well. Brave blocks them fine on my PC but not on android devices. If you find a fix alert me please, currently stuck using Firefox + Ublock Origin on phone.

Not exactly the answer to you question, but try NewPipe as an alternative YouTube app for Android, it is available on F-droid and provides add free YouTube as well as background listening.

5
IncognitoGuy 5 points ago +5 / -0

You should use Dissenter instead. It is a fork of Brave developed by Gab. It lets you comment on any website.

7
SordidPontification 7 points ago +8 / -1

Honestly, I have to recommend against distant forks. While Dissenter is setup to automatically pull from the upstream Brave sources, Gab doesn't have the personnel to dedicate to browser maintenance.

This is a problem because browsers are highly complex, and oftentimes particularly egregious exploits are tucked away behind press embargoes until all the major distributions are able to apply the upstream patches.

For now, as long as Gab's automated tooling keeps up with Brave, that's probably OK, but I wouldn't rely on it. All it would take is for this tooling to fail for a week during which a really bad bug surfaces that can allow remote exploitation.

2
PichaiLiedToCongress 2 points ago +2 / -0

Isn't dissenter just an add-on? I didn't know it was a fully fledged browser.

3
Deaf_MAGA_Pede 3 points ago +3 / -0

I believe Dissenter used to be available in the Chrome web store as an extension, until Google removed it then Gab was forced to create the Dissenter browser.

Yanno everyone, all jokes aside, I find (now chromium based) Edge not so bad, it’s basically like chrome but without all the crap. It’s actually better than Firefox. Early edge was awful though.

I also still use IE11, because I like to annoy corporate.

5
philandy 5 points ago +6 / -1

Sorry, there's too many good browsers out there for me to support trojans like Edge.

There was a recent movie that was a sort of a Beatles movie the title escapes me but I think it came out last summer. The gist of the movie is that everyone in the world forgot who the Beatles are except like three people so one guy decide to profit off of it. Starts releasing Beatles hits as if they are his own. He gets to Hollywood and wants to make “the white album” even though he is Indian they won’t let him because it’s too “racist”

1

Les Misérables will have to change their song about french poverty, because Some one forgot to tell BLM marxists with no education of 'white history' that few with money had slaves, regular people could not afford to feed an extra child, let alone a slave. It is not a black person singing. 'master of the house,' That is a white domestic worker's song about their employer.

The poor have to steal bread io eat- comes from here.

We have to erase our cultural history because of someone with no education assuming it is an insult that has something to do with them-

We have the most narcissistic, history-ignorant people, that wish t re-write our history- to center them, so they can alter it to say, they invented everything. After the Fentanyl 'floyd' incident, Omar was screaming for everyone to burn down her own city. Part of Biden's campaign was to get a seat at his funeral, these people are phony.

Never forget- Jessie Smollett was suppose to kick off the riots, he was discovered to be fake, so two body cams had to be suppressed, and innocent people had to be arrested to kick it off for Floyd.

4
Shalomtoyou 4 points ago +4 / -0

I thought master of the house was the Threnadiers' song. They ran an inn. They robbed their guests. And they agreed to take care of Cosette, but treated her as slave labor though she was a toddler. (Castle in a Cloud)

6
minotaurbeach 6 points ago +6 / -0

How many were black?

This is poor white culture that had nothing to do with the African slave trade, why buy a slave when you can just arrest a white person, and rent their labor from the prison? They are cheaper to rent, then buying a real slave. You get arrested, it is for life, 'the poor white people' died in jail for poverty related crime, but they had a chance to be free- if they went to the colonies to work as a slave for someone else..

People like this were also rounded up to be put to work as indentured servants in the US, against their will if out past city curfew, and many died on the boat or within a year of the hard labor and harsh conditions.

Where are their reparations? Poor young women, were literally kidnapped off the street walking home from work[or did not have a home, or were prostitutes]- and put on boats - sold as wives, to men they did not even meet, and they were 'property' for seven years- but they would have kids, and no where to go - when their 'prison-term' was up.

Hans Christian Anderson's 'Little Match girl' is sympathetic to the type of street life children faced being poor in Europe. Americans earned our place, and system of climbing out of street poverty and owning your own home-is for everybody coming here. There is nothing wrong with this culture, and no where else has a system open to everyone where someone could be that poor, - and become rich.

5
Shalomtoyou 5 points ago +5 / -0

There are very few people out there that can't find suffering in their family tree.

Les Miserables was about the French. Like you said, the little match girl, the poverty masses of Europe, the Irish starved by the British, the Jews trapped in the ghettos, the Russian serfs, the Chinese attacked by the Japanese in WW2 and then by Mao, the Japanese themselves, starving under the reign of a suicidal empire, the impoverished Muslims, seeing the rich marry many women while their told their only chance at female companionship is to blow up a bunch of heathens...

If pain were water, the world would drown.

Slavery was certainly an ill, but hardly the only one. But it's a pressure point, a flaw. And I mean a flaw like a flaw in a rock or a piece of furniture, that if you put enough pressure on it, can break the whole thing. And I think that's what the globalists are trying to do.

3
minotaurbeach 3 points ago +3 / -0

But, The only Slavery left is the Child trafficking, which these same globalists support, and - Want to legalize everywhere and use to run their empire.

No thanks, our system is just fine, but, we need to get rid of the Pedophiles that groom children with stories, violate them and their trust-and leave them with broken lives as adults when allowed to live.

2
babyface 2 points ago +2 / -0

Child trafficking = slavery is a great observation. Pedophilia = sex slavery is a good one too. We need to pound this home with the left if only to make it crystal clear what it is they are pushing for the normies.

2
Shalomtoyou 2 points ago +2 / -0

That would be nice. Sure is a surprise to find how many of these pedophiles are in positions of power.

1

Another fan of Les Mis I see. I may just have to put that on while I'm at work today. So many good songs.

I wish someone would make a full length audio version of The Greatest Showman. I know it's not an accurate portrayal of his life, but I still love it. And damn...Wolverine can sing.

2
Shalomtoyou 2 points ago +2 / -0

I liked the soundtrack. Was kind of less impressed when I saw it on Broadway. Not sure why. It moved so quickly, you never had a chance to breathe.

I have a decent cousin who I owed a favor to. I offered to take him to see Les Mis, but he wasn't interested. So we saw a different play. I asked him why he shrugged of Les Mis. He told me he once dated a girl who wouldn't let him touch her until they listened to the entire Les Mis soundtrack.

I think these people view the French Revolution as more important than the American one...

4
minotaurbeach 4 points ago +4 / -0

And Oddly, France supported our Revolution to break free from the British Empire.

5
ParadigmShift2070 5 points ago +5 / -0

What's odd about it? The French didn't give a shit about American freedom and democracy, they did it to weaken the British as part of their centuries old war/hostility

3
Overmann 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yep they did that everywhere. Just ask the Scots.

3
minotaurbeach 3 points ago +3 / -0 (edited)

That is the way the world works- we can't change things like that-

The US OUTlawed slavery 1865, and gave black men the right to vote and run for office in 1870- No other 'White' country in the world offered that-

We already integrated, but the Democratic party held a grudge about the slavery thing - and still to this day try to create a slave class and a 1%. -but we can protect those in our boarders and make decisions to benefit them.

The Republican Party was formed to free slaves. We were all Federalists before-. There were fights over the first decoration of independence, because it was discovered that alot of the people with money- wanted to keep the slaves, and threatened to reject signing it and taking their chances with the British that would allow them to keep slaves-if it was included at that time. We had to go to war with each other later- to win that right- and it is spiting on the graves of those that died to keep this country free, if you erase what they did for us.

IMHO

*edit: Not Federalists, [another name-but I have to go to work soon]

make people afraid to speak and thus afraid to think

That's it in a nutshell. Everything they do is about holding or gaining power. An ignorant, brain-washed, non-thinking population allows those evil entities to flourish. Look back at history when an evil regimes starts to take power or has taken power, who are the people in society they eliminate first? Answer: The ones who can think for themselves and can inspire others to do so.

I was quickly corrected at work when using "manpower" to describe our factory's available labor whilst performing some resource planning. It's everywhere.

14
lerm4comptroller 14 points ago +14 / -0

As a woman, I'm offended that they don't like the word "manpower." It implies that adding "man" to a word makes it property of men, thus disenfranchising me as a female. Very important turning points in our history suddenly have nothing to do with women like me, all because of our tendency to simplify and shorten "humankind" to "man." Apparently all of the many rights fought for don't count, because actually they were given in generosity and not implicit in our founding.

... Now, since we're both equally offended (though I'm sure they didn't even bother to walk through their reasoning), I guess it's a wash and you can say whatever you want. ;)

Mozilla is suppose to be a lean lightweight company not a 1000 person beast. SJW's ousted the real CEO who then founded brave and replaced him with someone who puts ideology above business.

I've been using it for probably two years without major problems. I've only had an issue with it once -- I installed an extension for Google Chrome and it did exactly what you described. I removed the extension and it went back to normal.

23
cucks_on_parade 23 points ago +25 / -2

The person was asking why brave would care, but plenty of people care about that sort of thing. It's inexcusable not to have basic functionality. Also brave has been caught running certain links through their own referral network (foggy on the details but something like that).

7
TheScuderia 7 points ago +7 / -0

Also brave has been caught running certain links through their own referral network

This was totally blown out of proportion and was corrected within a day or two by their dev team. You're going to see a lot of shills going after Brave because of its rapidly growing ad platform (Brave Rewards) which looks to cancel out Google as the middle man in the online ad-space.

3
techied 3 points ago +3 / -0

Preamble: I am not an online advertiser, nor have I ever used the Google advertising platform

My thought is; if the browser doesn't go exactly to the place I send it, or at least tell me that it's rewriting something like that ("Change links to help support Brave" setting) then it's failed as a browser. If that's what you can see happening to your information, what can't you see?

4
flashersenpai 4 points ago +5 / -1

It's open source isn't it? Couldn't you look at the code online if you had questions?

1
TheScuderia 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)

Every browser uses referral links to generate money. That in and of itself wasn't the issue. The problem was after an update Brave referral links began auto-completing as default links to their partner websites. It was fixed within a day or two, no user privacy was compromised, and Brave didn't receive any money as a result of the issue.

4
babyrage2021 4 points ago +4 / -0

Chrome (which brave is based off of) and discord are the same way.

Chrome (which brave is based off of does that) IIRC there are ways to get it on a different drive via a command line switch and a windows program. Also discord is the same way. With that being said the amount of companies being lazy about that is too dam high

I mean anybody who runs Windows when they don't have to doesn't have much to complain about when it comes to shitty architecture - they are fully embracing it by choosing to run the worst designed and built OS out there.

You need to install a Linux distro with a open source dev team of 1 man, 3 chickens, and a box of hot pockets. Make sure you use a shrunken head for the voodoo ritual or the OS will wipe your hard drive and give your graphics card aids.

1

You're aware a lot of companies release some/most of their software under FOSS licenses and actually pay people to develop it, right?

You're aware a lot of open source is written by people for hobbyist reasons, in many cases, because they can or because they want to, right?

Many of these people have real jobs and write FOSS because they enjoy it. It has no bearing on whether the developer is for one particular cause or another. Mozilla is doing what they're doing because they're run by leftist bureaucrats and have a history of idiotic hiring practices that could be argued to be anything but merit.

...and guess what? We're seeing that with all these other "woke" companies too. This isn't isolated to open source.

I'm also not sure how you argue Torvalds "fucked himself into a corner," because the reality is that he's a household name and has worked for a number of large companies. If anything has impacted his employment status, it's probably his abrasive personality more than anything else.

The other side of the coin is that you're completely missing the utility of FOSS. Security libraries (cryptography, notably) that are not open source become black boxes where you can only hope they're doing the right thing. If it's open source, it can be audited by third parties, and the code can be analyzed by anyone to validate that it does what it says on the tin.

There's also the advantage of reproducible builds where certain code can demonstrably be shown to produce certain binary output guaranteeing that it wasn't manipulated in the interim.

2
deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0
1
SordidPontification 1 point ago +1 / -0

Seeing as how I've been in software for over 20 years, yes. That's not the point.

I'm happy for you. I have too.

And for the whole BuT If EveRyOnE Can SeE iT It'LL Be SecuRe is completely meaningless when the many eyeballs are about as proficient as dogs are at flying planes. You do know that companies could purchace the source code to Windows, or enter agreements to see it, right?

I do, and those licenses are prohibitively expensive or not even available to smaller organizations that would otherwise be able to audit Windows.

And there are probably NDAs that prohibit them from discussing the findings of their audits in the first place.

In order to be sure it has not been modified, you need to audit the compiler, and the compiler made to compile that compiler, and the compiler used to compile that compiler, etc.

Non-sequitur, given the above quote.

You're aware that if you have a license to view the Windows sources this doesn't include Visual Studio or any of the build toolchain Microsoft has used to generate the binaries you're using.

So now we're in the exact same boat.

Except not quite, because at least the non-bootstrap compiler in, say, GCC can be audited.

Then you need to audit the hardware in the same way.

Not unique to FOSS.

So unless you do it yourself, completely, for everything, have you actually audited anything, or have you just deferred the responsibility of auditing to someone, so you don't get the blame?

Not unique to FOSS.

Open sourcing your own projects just basically fuck yourself out of the sweat of your brow.

Not necessarily. You're assuming that people are writing code strictly for monetary compensation. If they do it for $DAY_JOB and then do it as a hobby, more power to them.

I'm not sure why you see this as a zero sum game. It's not.

Much better, as long as you disable all the reward garbage. However, unpopular opinion: Firefox dev tools are so much better.

19
Kydos 19 points ago +19 / -0

all the reward garbage.

I'll commend for trying something different all the same. Everyone hates ads but sites have to get money from somewhere so it's not enough to just block ads and call it a day. We need a new model for income that doesn't involve raiding the privacy of users and selling personal info to advertisers.

The rewards are cool for those of us who work on a stupid computer all day. I am always staring at this thing, programming or writing or taking a break and browsing here.

I turned on the ads and now I've made about $45 in the Basic Attention Token crypto that is the reward. It wouldn't be worth it unless you are on the computer 8+ hours a day.

2
TheScuderia 2 points ago +2 / -0 (edited)

Well it is a cryto currency that actively trades. So if the value of BAT increases significantly in the future, so too will that $45 in BAT you've made.

1
magastrophysicist 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's true. BAT/USD has been relatively flat over the three years since it was launched. Maybe in the future it'll go to the moon, but it seems like most altcoins rise and die over the course of a few years.

It'll be cool if it goes someplace nice.

1
sideofbeef69 1 point ago +1 / -0

2
Pegases 2 points ago +2 / -0

I like it. is 64 bit so it doesn't crash going over 4gb of ram. highly customizable like vanilla firefox. Ad blockers still eat up tons of ram if you like having many windows and tabs open. will eventually slow down when this happens and needs a browser restart. trivial issue with addons like session manager and memory restart

2
Abyss 2 points ago +2 / -0

I used it for about a year or two after chrome dropped flash (.swf files, specifically) support since it was the only browser I could find that still did. It ran very smoothly, unlike the behemoth that is chrome chugging away at my cpu, which was nice. It still works with all the extensions you'd normally use for firefox, too.

I'm unsure how much privacy you really get with it, but it being open source and running way smoother than chrome was pretty nice. Eventually it updated and stopped allowing users to enable flash support, so I dropped it. Couldn't find any that did, so I gave up on flash support and moved to Brave afterwards.

I stopped using Firefox back when they banned the Dissenter extension from their app store.

Their "about" page still has this quote: "We want to give users the knowledge and the power to make informed decisions by themselves to prevent abusive practices."

Clearly that doesn't extend to decisions they don't approve of.

7
Snooch 7 points ago +7 / -0

Wasnt it banned because of privacy issues? Or is that just the equivalent to the "he is a racist" in the browser plugin space?

15
mattrona 15 points ago +15 / -0

I was not able to find any information related to it having been banned for privacy or security concerns.

I did find a page quoting Mozilla's alleged response that the Dissenter extension was being used to "degrade, intimidate, incite violence against, or encourage prejudicial action against someone or a group based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, religion, geographic location or other protected category." (source)

In other words, typical vague cover for suppressing free speech.

7
Captain_Cashew 7 points ago +7 / -0

I don't recall a privacy argument, if that's the case then they should probably ban most existing add-ons. I think the excuse was hate speech. No definition provided, and no explanation why they don't ban other apps you can say mean things with. It's been a while though, maybe there was more to it.

2
SordidPontification 2 points ago +2 / -0

It does "leak" the sites you visit to dissenter.com, but that seems like a weak argument since that's kind of the point of the extension.

Pale moon. It split off of Firefox some years ago. Highly underrated. And while not based per se, they are pretty libertarian.

2
AR14operator 2 points ago +2 / -0

Same question. Is there anything wrong with Opera? It ranks above Chrome and Firefox on a lot of tech websites, I've used it in the past and liked it.

3
TheThreeSeashells 3 points ago +3 / -0

I've heard some people crowing about Opera in the past in regard to tracking/privacy, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. I've used it on and off for years. It's OK as a browser, but it's trying to be more than it is and is filled with unnecessary bloat. If you use the newsfeed, it's pretty cucked and they don't allow you to add your own sources.

Brave is OK. Considering who's behind it, I'd think it would be better. Plus, it's basically a repackaged Chrome and I'm not a fan of Chrome.

3

Taipei is the capital of Taiwan.

I'm an IT guy, and used to deploy Firefox to every computer I worked on. Hundreds, maybe thousands of PCs over the years. Once Mozilla started this woke garbage, I never recommended their software again, and removed it from my personal machines. They can rot in hell.

Aren’t they all chromium based?

The chromium monoculture bothers me. It’s a shame.

Mozilla (FireFox) was co founded by Brendan Eich. He invented JavaScript as well. They ousted him because he donated to organizations that opposed gay marriage.

If you want to support him, he created Brave. Brave is a browser based on open source Chromium. It blocks ads and gives you many security options.

Be nice to see FireFox go down.

Brave Browser with DuckDuckGo. Drop all these idiots.

Does anyone feel like no matter what you buy or use it is controlled by cucks? I wish I could use a Goya brand browser.

5
EvanGRogers 5 points ago +5 / -0

BRAVE BROWSER

5
itsdangerous 5 points ago +5 / -0

the firefox engine is actually pretty good and faster than chrome since quantum. but their management is poop. Mitchel baker is the original sjw. raking in 2.5m a year while running the company to the ground, and she also fired Eich for wrong-voting

3
itsdangerous 3 points ago +3 / -0

oh yeah another one is eric rescola. leader because of his religion, he helped backdooring dual ec (encryption) and was famous for that but somehow didnt lose his job over it. hes currently renaming all master and shit in the next version of the tls protocol that you use right now to connect to tdw. hes paid a million a year for this important work.

1
lanre 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm super excited for them to break TLS by trying to goodify it with SJW propaganda and newspeak.

5
Pravda 5 points ago +6 / -1

Good reminder for everyone, use Brave Browser.

6
EMP2024 6 points ago +6 / -0

Same guy that started Firefox started Brave after getting kicked out for donating to some anti-gay marriage campaign or something like that

5
Pravda 5 points ago +5 / -0

More reason to support him, fuck the cancel culture.

3
itsdangerous 3 points ago +3 / -0

for i know him personally hes a good guy. not a fan of brave tbh. its okay but not the best. he knows that.

Teufelhunden 5 points ago +5 / -0

As much as I like to see woke companies go broke, this is really bad. Firefox was the only viable alternative to chrome (google) based browsers. Even Microsoft's Edge is now chrome based. While occasionally I also use Dissenter, Firefox is still my main browser. I really hate their SJW bullshit, but there are two reasons I still used it 1) they are more privacy focused than chrome 2) they are not google. Chrome doesn't have a multi account containers extension like in in Firefox. Chrome is more of a ram hog than Firefox since the quantum update. Since Firefox fired their security team I really hate that I may have to make Dissenter my main browser now. If there was a viable 3rd choice I would jump on it in a second.

ChadManspread 3 points ago +3 / -0

There are many, MANY other browsers. The comments in here list them, and there's a Wikipedia page that has them too. Brave, Opera, Waterfox, Pale Moon, Vivaldi, are just a few.

1
Teufelhunden 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)

I'll have to look into Opera. Brave and Vivaldi are google chrome based and Waterfox and Pale Moon are based on outdated Firefox builds. EDIT: Opera is chrome based too.

NoMoreLies 1 point ago +1 / -0

There’s also Waterfox

Mitchell Baker is why I don't use Firefox any longer. It's a good browser but I use a browser and don't want the lectures on wokeness. It started when they kicked out the founder cuz he didn't support theLGBQXYZAFGJHREYJNJTH agenda. He started Brave browser and that's what I use. Sure it's built on open source chromium (so is chrome and edge) but the basics are solid.

4
VoltronGreen1981 4 points ago +4 / -0

I use Brave

4
LugNuts 4 points ago +4 / -0

Why would the Wuhan affect their revenue? They make a fucking web browser, that people SITTING ON THEIR ASSES AT HOME use.

2
lanre 2 points ago +2 / -0

They just destroyed their mobile app apparently, and their desktop version isn't competitive.

3
6-_-j 3 points ago +3 / -0

Going downhill ever since they removed their co-founder, Brandon Eich. He created Javascript, fucking idiots at Mozilla. Oh well, fuck em, Brave browser it is!

3
Seanp12 3 points ago +4 / -1

Unless they rehire or otherwise apologize to Brendan Eich, I'm still boycotting Mozilla products.

3
latsbruh 3 points ago +3 / -0

"it was the virus" thats why youre announcing this layoff months after, totally not the woke bullshit from a few weeks ago.

3
BaronFalcon 3 points ago +3 / -0

I thought most people stopped using firefox years ago when it became the most insecure browser at the hacker cons

3
COCOMOJOE 3 points ago +3 / -0

I had no idea they did this. I may use some add blockers... what good browser is there if not Firefox?

2
NoMoreLies 2 points ago +2 / -0

Brave and Waterfox are good

3
IncognitoGuy 3 points ago +3 / -0

Ever since Mozilla fired Brendan Eich for opposing homosexual "marriage", I have used his Brave Browser. But once Gab developed Dissenter Browser, I switched to that instead.

3
TrumpRules 3 points ago +3 / -0

Firefox is exactly just like a libtard.. Sucks up too many resources and is very slow

I've been using firefox for years, although I may change soon. They have been spewing liberal garbage in their pocket feature. Yesterday I came across an article written by a soyboy who wrote a multi paragraph article on why he hated trucks. Firefox has also shown messages saying something about 'misinformation and racism regarding the coronavirus'. What garbage.

1
lanre 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, that was the latest coordinated campaign against Facebook. Basically, Facebook wasn't censoring enough so the rest of the cabal accused them of being racist Nazis basically.

I use qwant search, they seem pretty good for privacy, and they don't use gaggle results. DDG is basically just a Gaggle wrapper.

ScrewReddit 3 points ago +3 / -0

$500M in annual revenue, but they couldn't survive because they were bloated - 1000 employees and a CEO that pulls in $2.5M/yr. So what do they do? Lay off their Servo team members (which worked on Firefox) and their security response team. What a mismanaged clusterfuck.

Use Brave instead.

3
kyle6969 3 points ago +3 / -0

Anyone find it weird that THE LEFT wants to boycott Facebook? Like THEY'RE ON YOUR SIDE! Definitely. Just because they won't directly censor Trump ads does NOT mean they aren't on your side.
