I add some money each paycheck and added my full tax refund and bonuses, and I’m up to $9k.
A lot of it is my own money, but $3k in gains when I bought at the bottom. Just buy from companies you like and don’t get discouraged when it goes down. If you plan on holding for 5-10 years at least, the daily fluctuations mean nothing.
There are a few stocks where I’ve lost a couple hundred dollars, but my winners have made it net positive.
Apple and Tesla are both splitting their stock later, so it’s a chance to buy cheaper shares. Apple is one of my best performers.
As far as dividends, bank stocks, AT&T, and real estate companies have good ones. (REITs have really good ones, but they are doing bad because of the shutdown. But it also might be a good time to pick some up. Its up to you.)
Once you’re comfortable and see how the market works, you can learn more advanced strategies. There are ways you can make a ton of money if the market drops, but that’s for a later time.
