Ever since the Bat Soup Flu got started, I've been trying to make an even more intense effort to both buy local and buy American. The small local grocer might not have the huge selection of a Wal-Mart Supercenter, but I've been getting groceries there for five months now, and I'm not starving or missing anything. Needed socks, so I bought them at the local Family Dollar. Needed an HDMI cable, so I went to a family-owned TV and appliance store in the next town over. Needed multivitamins and Fish Oil pills, so I bought them at a small pharmacy. The only time I went to Wal-Mart was to see if they had any Goya stuff I could buy.
Six months ago, I would have said I couldn't live without Wal-Mart or Amazon. Truth is, I've found that I do not need WalMart or Amazon at all. I've probably paid a few dollars more here and there, but saved some gas money and saved my pride a bit, so that makes it worth it to me.
