Agree, and it's not that hard. Jesus's first coming was about division, not peace.

nozonozo 31 points ago +31 / -0

Jesus didn't give a damn about "social justice" or your position in life.

You would think the Pope would know that.

He cared about your eternal soul. Poor people actually have a better chance than the rich at entering heaven.

Poor people actually have a better chance than the rich at entering heaven.

Probably because a ridiculous percentage of rich people are raping children.

The_Peter 14 points ago +14 / -0

According to 1 Timothy 6:8 "If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content."

So basically, if you have any disposable income, it doesn't matter if you have enough to buy a smart phone or if you have enough to buy a yacht, you are categorically rich.

To me, that was always the irony of the "occupy wall street" people who didn't realize that by living in the USA they were likely already part of the 1%.

7
DArtist51 7 points ago +7 / -0

This. Anyone who lives in this country is already richer than the rest of the world, if not financially, then by the very freedom the USA provides. No country on earth, and in history has ever been greater than this one. Occupy Wall Street folks were ignorant of this.

The Pope DOES know that. The Bible was suppressed by the Catholic Church and why there is little in common if you compare a catechism to the Bible. This was the common situation prior to 1517, when, starting on October 31 of that year, the Bible did an end run around the Catholic Church via soon-to-be-ex Catholic Bishop Martin Luther, and the result wasn't just a revolution, but the Reformation. It's hard to overstate how important this process was, because every founder of science (including Nicholas Steno, the father of stratigraphy upon whose shoulders all the Evolutionists stand) was Christian. Three fields of study important to the development of modern technology bottleneck through a Sir Isaac Newton, whose scientific career was summarized quite eloquently by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Of course, atheists like him aren't going to pin any significance to the fact that Newton spent twice as much of his life in theology as he did in science.

Thanks for bring up UNCLE MARTIN. Well, at least maybe. The genealogy goes there, but without much supporting documentation before Captain John Luther, my (8G)Grandfather.

It is interesting that he had a problem with the church selling indulgences (licenses to sin) for profit. It's very analogous to BLM and ANTIFA Judicial indulgences we see today.

And Francis isn't even Christian. He's a Communist. His GOD is the State.

I found out last year that my sister’s genealogy tracking of our family showed we are direct descendants (father to son to father) of the Crusader who started the Knights Templar. Think of all the people coming before everyone on the donald who were valiant fighters for truth and against evil!

Let's call evil and wrong where it is - you do NOT have to alienate a big part of the Christian community.

You know something we have to hand it to the Libs / Communists / Democrats? They're so brainwashed they're united in their delusions and actions, no matter how evil.

When they want something or try to block legislation, they are united.

...I don't think the guy was trying to pick a fight.

Quick story: a pagan priest was once traveling down the road when he met a Christian priest along the way. The Christian berated him, and told him he was going to hell for his beliefs. By the time they parted ways, the pagan was furious, and went down the road cursing Christians and all they stood for.

A little further on, he met another Christian. The second man saw that the pagan was angry and miserable, and asked what was the matter. The pagan explained what had happened. This Christian expressed sympathy, and then continued talking to the pagan for awhile as they went down the road. They made friends, and later, the pagan converted to Christianity.

Perhaps this little story is apocryphal, but it rings true with anyone who understands human nature. You will never convince anyone that he is wrong and you are right by making him feel imposed upon. Even if you win the argument, he will still resent you in his heart. I am certainly guilty of going in guns blazing instead of addressing people gently when they say something I don't like, and it's especially easy to do so on the Internet where we can't see each other's faces, so we must be very careful as Christians to look out both for our own souls and those of people we must sometimes argue with.

If you want to call me a liar, the first thing you have to do is prove that what I'm saying is incorrect and you have made no attempt to do that. I'm not a Catholic hater, I'm a guy that recognizes that Roman Catholicism and Christianity are opposed. If you are a Catholic who believes the true Gospel, then Revelation 18:4 is for you.

1
featherwinglove 1 point ago +1 / -0

A somewhat intelligent response, have a vote. Early Catholic church history has been deliberately confused, and there is quite a lot of data missing from the immediate post-Jerusalem period (i.e. after the sacking of Jerusalem in 70 AD.) I know that Saint Peter actually refers to Peter Magus of Acts 8. If you look up both what the Catholics have to say about the Protestants (especially about which day of the week the Sabbath falls on), and vice versa, you'll see they are enemies. Even compare the freaking Ten Commandments, for crying out loud - the Ten Commandments in the Roman Catholic catechism are not the same as the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20!

Matthew 19:24

11

The Bible already defines justice… Merit-based awards and merit-based punishments. One example of this is when they talk about needing to work to eat. Adam was told that he would "eat by the sweat of his brow". One key theme, that keeps repeating itself throughout the Bible, is that our actions can result in rewards or punishments… Depending on what those actions are.

Social justice? It is a contradiction with Scripture. I read the Bible from cover to cover more than once. The difference between the Bible's version of justice and social justice is blatantly obvious.

As for poor people having a better chance than the rich of entering heaven…

This is to be read in context of what is said elsewhere in Scripture. In the Bible, terms like rich, poor, widow, orphaned, stranger, mean more than what they describe.

For example, on Reddit, we conservatives are "poor", the "orphaned", etc., based on the unpopularity of the conservative view. How do they treat us over there?

According to Mosaic law, we as the "strangers" (outsiders/conservatives) should be subject to the same rules/treatment as those who are favored, the leftists. But, Reddit does not do things that way. They let leftists get away with things that they would hammer conservatives for.

When Jesus talked about "giving up one's riches", "riches" meant a lot of things. For many people, this involves habits, beliefs, behavior systems, etc., that would prevent them from fully walking the walk with regards to the Gospels. These "habits" are the "riches" that people would not want to give up.

If they do not give up these "habits", symbolically labeled as "riches", that they could not pick up the cross and follow Jesus… By extension, they could not enter heaven... Jesus described both faith in him, and belief in him, as doing the 10 Commandments.

People have habits, personality, and other baggage that prevent them from fully doing the 10 Commandments. These are the "riches" that have to be "giving away". Once that happens, then the obstacles are removed for these individuals to doing the 10 Commandments.

Jesus was not condemning the rich, as the Bible describes the fruits of people's labor as "their inheritance". The more people work, the more they are willing to earn more money and material possessions, that was their inheritance.

Jesus's focus, as you pointed out, was the eternal soul.

I'm pretty sure that the first and most important reading of Matthew 19:24 is literal camel, literal needle, and literally rich. It's actually pretty profound to think of it this way. Especially if you consider modern technology, it is possible to get a camel through the eye of a literal needle: grind it up into a fine enough puree and pump it through a fine enough hose. It's actually the same opening for everyone (Matthew 7:14) just that the addicts, poor, orphans, widows, and penitent criminals are more likely to submit to the grinding process than the rich who have so much to lose by it.

2
thebesig 2 points ago +2 / -0

Throughout the Bible, terms are very broadly applied, like "rich" as mentioned above. Rich is used as a metaphor to describe anything that we possess in greater quantity than most. It meant the rich, in terms of money, it also meant rich with regards to tangible and intangible possessions.

Heck, rich could also mean karma points here or on Reddit. How many folks on Reddit would keep quiet, and keep their points, than to stand up for a cause or for someone? They'd much rather keep their points than to do or say what's right.

This is similar to what was going on with the rich man mentioned before Matthew 19:24. He wasn't willing to part with his possessions. This proved that he wasn't willing to do everything that he needed to do. He loved wealth and possessions so much he was willing to give up an opportunity to learn from Jesus in order to keep his possessions.

Herein lies one of the meanings behind the statement, paraphrased, "Those who seek their life would lose it, but those who give it up for Jesus's sake would gain eternal life".

"Their life" includes the above "riches". Had man sold his possessions (given up his life), and followed Jesus, he would've learned to truly walk the walk with regards to the 10 commandments... Thus getting eternal life.

Elsewhere in the Gospels, Jesus talks about giving up ones family members, even family, for Jesus. This is an example of "rich", person being rich with regards to having a loving family.

The aim wasn't to denigrate people with lots of money, or with lots of anything, but to focus on the true desire of the person wanting to enter heaven.

As for the camel through the needle, this is metaphor for a narrow/slim passage. These are spaces that you have to "squeeze" through... They'd be described as "eye of the needle" in the Middle East during that time.

2

I know that, but I hope you appreciate what I was saying about the literal one. I think it's kinda interesting that I have Juno Reactor's Mona Lisa Overdrive stuck in my head at the moment: You get to a certain point, and talking about Jesus Christ in real life starts to feel like talking about politics in a video game chat.

Exactly right:

Matthew 10:34-36 34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to turn "'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law- 36a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

1
iVote 1 point ago +1 / -0

True. I can confirm.

6
featherwinglove 6 points ago +7 / -1

Jesus' first coming was all about peace: individual peace, personal peace, internal peace. About political peace, it most certainly was not.

6
The_Peter 6 points ago +6 / -0

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus' first words after being baptized and tempted in the wilderness were:

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel. Mark 1:15

Later in the same chapter:

In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. Simon and his companions searched for Him; they found Him, and said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.” He said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for. Mark 1:35-38

The most important peace is peace with God which is obtained by repenting, that is why Jesus came.

The Church is not an agent of Social Justice and change; it was never meant to be. The Church is an ambassador of Christ Jesus bringing truth and salvation through Christ. The Church is not here to reconcile injustices, solve the worlds social and political problems, or to set up a man-made kingdom. All of that is a perversion.

The Church is here to preach Christ. Christ IS Salvation! Salvation from every folly and corruption of man. The world will never achieve racial harmony, social justice, human equality, peace, prosperity, or any form of their Utopia.

Do you know who can and has achieved all of that? Jesus Christ. In all of human history the only thing that has ever succeeded in creating racial harmony is the Church, the people of God.

In every place where true Christians have settled you can find the peace, prosperity, and joy of God. In every place where they have been driven out, you find poverty, disease, and suffering. You can trace the rise and fall of empires through Europe in the path of the persecuted saints of God. Germany, France, Britain, USA; they rIse and fall with Christ. Nation after nation.

All of these good things are blessings from God on his people, but it is not their mission. If you want a better world lead it to Christ. If you want a Blessed nation return to God.

Sure. The primary job of a pastor is to proclaim the Gospel. Jesus died for you, and Jesus rose again, proving your sin was paid for.

A secondary concern is ensuring people are fed and clothed so they are receptive to hearing the Gospel and not their own grumbling stomachs, but it needs to be in service to the Gospel.

But the monent worldly 'injustices' start even approaching the importance of the Gospel, you have a problem. Should you do it intentionally, you've betrayed your pastoral office.

Something to consider on that.

Romans 13:1 "Let every soul be subject to the authorities of the government" was written with the biblical contact of Exodus 23:2 "You shall not follow a crowd to do [something] evil, nor shall you testify at a trial or in a dispute so as to side with a crowd in order to pervert justice" supposed to be taken into account. The crowd can be the government, especially in a democracy.

Exactly -- I know I'm biased, as a historian, but people really need to study their history more, especially those who keep shouting about how "dRuMpF iS lItTeRaLlY hItLeR!!" and simultaneously always ask "How could something like the Holocaust ever happen?! It could never happen here!" I'd particularly like them to study the interim between WWI and WWII, and gain a better understanding of Weimar Republic Germany, the ideologies behind it, how the system was run, what the culture at the time looked like, what academic theories and schools of thought rose to prominence, and the general dynamic that developed between the communists and Nazis as Hitler began his rise to power. People generally have a very limited view of WWII and Germany's role in it, but have almost no understanding of what preceded it, and the ideologies (as well as culture) that was at play. They see so many false analogies and parallels between then (in Germany) and today, when there are so many real analogies and parallels that they remain ignorant of, or refuse to acknowledge. And of course our education system certainly won't help our k-12, or even college students (even those IN history programs!) understand it any better

All the rest of us are sinners.

Says so in the Talmud, tractate Bava Basra fol. 17b. There is no proof adduced from Scripture, it's just a tradition brought down.

I know we should trust in the Lord, but it's hard sometimes. Specifically, Psalm 37:

1 Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.

For me, this is hard to do. I'm impatient and want just now.

Psalm 140

Deliver me, O Lord, from evildoers; protect me from those who are violent,

who plan evil things in their minds and stir up wars continually.

They make their tongue sharp as a snake’s, and under their lips is the venom of vipers.

Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent who have planned my downfall.

The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net, along the road they have set snares for me.

I say to the Lord, “You are my God; give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my supplications.”

O Lord, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have covered my head in the day of battle.

Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; do not further their evil plot.

Those who surround me lift up their heads; let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them!

Let burning coals fall on them! Let them be flung into pits, no more to rise!

Do not let the slanderer be established in the land; let evil speedily hunt down the violent!

I know that the Lord maintains the cause of the needy, and executes justice for the poor.

Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall live in your presence.

I don't believe we should be praying for them to suffer, but to repent and change their views. The Lord will withhold judgement if you cheer on someone suffering because the Lord doesn't want that any should perish. He would also that people's deeds remain covered and they not be humiliated. This of course wouldn't apply to those preeching iniquity, but rather the sinner who is going along with the world because they don't know any better, someone like Mary Magdelin, as opposed to the Pharisees who He called out publicly.

It is good to pray that those in leadership have their plans foiled and their evil intentions are exposed. That the truth be made light. But we need to live with these people after all this is said and done. We aren't and the Lord isn't going to just kill them all. SJWs will still be here. We need to pray for our school system and media to be converted back to the truth or we are going to lose the future.

I'm not sure what parts of the Bible you have read, but not only does David, and many others, pray for God's vengeance on his enemies, God answers his prayers. The satanic pedophiles running things are irredeemable in my opinion, and praying for their destruction is righteous. If you want to pray for their salvation, good for you, but suggesting it's inappropriate or unBiblical to pray for their defeat and destruction is wrong.

Proverbs 24

17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls;     when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, 18 or the Lord will see and disapprove     and turn his wrath away from them.

Psalm 55

Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! 2 Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan, 3 because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me.

4 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. 5 Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. 6 And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; 7 yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah 8 I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.”

9 Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city. 10 Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it; 11 ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace.

12 For it is not an enemy who taunts me— then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me— then I could hide from him. 13 But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. 14 We used to take sweet counsel together; within God's house we walked in the throng. 15 Let death steal over them; let them go down to Sheol alive; for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart.

16 But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice. 18 He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me. 19 God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned from of old, Selah because they do not change and do not fear God.

20 My companion[b] stretched out his hand against his friends; he violated his covenant. 21 His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

23 But you, O God, will cast them down into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.

17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, 18 or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them.

None of that is a suggestion to not pray for their destruction.

Psalm 109

My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, 2 for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. 3 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. 4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. 5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

6 Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand. 7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. 8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. 10 May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven[a] from their ruined homes. 11 May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. 12 May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. 13 May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. 14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. 15 May their sins always remain before the Lord, that he may blot out their name from the earth.

16 For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted. 17 He loved to pronounce a curse— may it come back on him. He found no pleasure in blessing— may it be far from him. 18 He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil. 19 May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him. 20 May this be the Lord’s payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me.

And lastly, if yoy have to ask yourself if the Lord wants us to pray for evil people to be saved or for them to all die in horrific fiery wrath. You already know what the Lord wants from you.

These are good, but these are David's prayers to the Lord during the times of judgment, when man warred against flesh and the nature of the Spirit wasn't revealed. We don't war against the flesh in these days, but against the spirits, against wickedness in high places.

The revelation that it isn't the people but the demons inside of them that we are fighting. David only thought he was fighting people.

In Luke 9, the disciples wanted to call down fire on those who wouldn't accept Christ and He rebuked them.

In Romans Paul states to bless those who persecute us, not to curse them. Calling down God's wrath is cursing them.

Now I will give you this. Paul later in 2 Timothy alks about the metalsmith and ask the Lord to render to him for his works, but examples of this are rare in the new testament

Also the book of Revelation 6 states that the saints want God to unleash His wrath

My priest is secretly based. His sermons have basically been "stop being wimps and live your life. For Christ."

What defines a wimp. If you leave out the temple, the whip, money changers, and the beatings and the cross.....most would say Chtist was a wimp. But..... if included.... point.....if we were all more Christlike, we would all be in a better spot, speak truth......not judging, but illuminating....

Same then, same now.

"Wherefore He says, 'Be waking up, he who is sleeping, and arise from the dead and there shall shine upon you the Christ.' " Ephesians 5:14

"On this account, stop becoming those who are without reflection or intelligence, but be understanding what the will of the Lord is." Ephesians 5:16

From the Kenneth Wuest expanded translation of the NT. If you're not familiar with it, it's great. Wuest's object was to use as many English words as necessary to convey the message/meaning and to do so in word order, as much as possible. For instance, Hebrews 5:13b which is usually rendered as, 'He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you.' (also see Deut. 31:6) is translated in Wuest's version as, "For He Himself has said, and the statement is on record, I will not, I will not, I will not let you down."

The fact that God emphasized this point by repeating it is so meaningful.
