I was banned from r/unpopularopinion long ago when responding to a Redditards opinion on exactly that, but with respect to the Confederacy. "We shouldnt celebrate losers"

My question: "How do you feel about Columbus Day?"

A better thinker and historian responded that statues are erected for "losers" to honor their bravery and facilitate amends. Being made to feel demoralized, ground down, or not re-integrated into common society is the cause of continued strife. EG: The Treaty of Versailles, which placed fault 100% on Germany which was forced to pay reparations crippling its economy, was one of the root causes of another massive war 20 years later.

Marshall Foch even knew it at the time at the end of WW1: "This is not peace. It is an armistice for twenty years."
