This is slightly nerdy, but bear with me.

Kamala is a Hindi word, which itself is derived from a Sanskrit word. Both words are three letters long in their respective languages. The two words are spelled almost exactly the same. An easy way to think about this is that there is an accent mark on the last letter of the Sanskrit word, and the Hindi word does not have the accent.

Kamala's mom was south Indian and is quoted as saying she named her daughters after a Hindu goddess, Lakshmi. So this means that both the Sanskirt and Hindi pronunciations of Kamala's name are well known. Any Indian would know how to say it, this is not an obscure name. Based on the English spelling of the name, I will assume that Kamala's mother chose the Hindi spelling of the name for her daughter.

The letters in Hindi are क , म , and ल. That is ka (like king), ma (like mamba), and la (like large). When pronounced together and properly in Hindi, they make the sound kum-uh-la. The "uh" has a "half" pronunciation, don't put too much emphasis on the "h." Depending on the region, the last "la" may be fully pronounced or half pronounced. So some people will just say "l" but some people will say "la." I warned you this would be nerdy.

But what is constant, in multiple languages across India is the pronunciation of क and म making the "kum-uh" sound. It is NOT "comma-la."

My point is if any lefty fuck tries to tell you that you're pronouncing her name incorrectly, kindly let them know that Kamala herself can't even pronounce her own damn name. If you really feel like taking the piss call them Hinduphobic lol.
