The PO is bleeding red ink. Partly because, well, post office... and partly because Congress threw them a big screwing a few years ago. I don't know the nuts and bolts, but essentially, the USPS has to pay their health and life insurance up front. No other .gov has to do that. They are also underbidding on contracts to get work. Amazon got a sweetheart deal and they are taking full advantage of it. They're overburdened and now here comes the possibility or millions of mail-in ballots. They can't handle it, but just give us money and we can fix it. They can't. You can't gear up logistics and increase capacity in just a month and a half. ESPECIALLY if you're a .gov entity. (And yes, they ARE a .gov entity, despite what they say) The Postmaster General has half a clue and opposes it. But on the other paw, the Postal Worker's Union is (as Unions are wont to be) totally on board with mail-in voting. So there you go. The USPS clusterfuck as I see it.
