I did it in 3rd grade. Snowed on May 3rd. Put on frozen boots the first morning. Slipped off a log into a bog because all the trails were washed / swamped out. Started out with a pack that weighed more than I did. 2 weeks in.
This was back when they told us black bears aren't aggressive. Got really close to a mostly peaceful black bear ...
Oh im talking about through hiking. All 2000 miles from Maine to Georgia.
Ive walkes up on black bear cubs in a field with my brother. Happened up in the smokeys. Didnt see the mom but she was around in the tree line im sure.
We were probably within 50 yards maybe a little more. Scary stuff to just walk up on.
Haha i just had to point it out. We dont have REI's out here. So it rang so true. She is the only Portlander i know and she works there.
