Nah. There ARE some nasty cops out there and they do need better training. They also need better psychological testing before they even accept someone in to the academy. Citizens have the responsibility to be decent and upstanding, but they also have the right to not be attacked by or have their Constitutional rights denied by some psycho cop.
Nasty Cops need to be fired. Unions should be at the forefront of assisting in the culling process, not defending the indefensible. Bad Cops are worse for the Cops than the public, but good Cops need an advocate.
Tons. First of all, they should have better training on the LAWS they are supposed to be upholding. Ever seen any of the videos on youtube where one cop after another doesn't know the law and violates the Constitution - you know - the one they swore an oath to uphold?
Also, every type of tactical and psychological style of training available, and new ones should be devised. What is more important in society than a well trained and FIT law enforcement team? Society depends on them to maintain law and order, to actually get the bad guys off the streets and out of your neighborhoods, and to protect the innocent as well as their property. Too many cops assume guilt before innocence is proven. And that's one way things can escalate and get out of hand. How many innocent people get killed by cops who are scared or unprepared or trigger happy? How about the woman shot in the back while playing video games with her 8 year old nephew? The neighbor called to report their door was standing open and a scared and unprepared cop KILLS this woman, in front of her 8 year old nephew because he ... I don't know. Wasn't properly trained and didn't even give her a chance to respond, but just shot at her. Stuff like that happens and as a society, we should do everything we can to reduce the instance of that sort of thing. Cops have to deal with those decisions for the rest of their lives and that can mess a person up, not to mention the collateral damage to the family of the victim. That 8 year old will live with that his whole life.
That sounds all nice and great, but if you reduce police to physically fit martial artists; you reduce the number of eligible people to a lower amount and you also need to pay them much more to compensate.
We do need police reforms. Police across the country are fucked. I've watched hundreds of hours of bad cop videos on YouTube. I know there are a lot of pieces of shit out there, and some of them end up being cops.
I was for police reform before all this bullshit even started, but now I'm willing to lose this battle so we can win the war.
Marxists and people who hate America are trying to destroy and abolish our law enforcement entirely. That is why I will stand behind the rule of law and the concept of a strong police force now, so that we can help to push our own reforms later.
What you said makes so much sense I'm not sure you'll ever get a government to agree with it.
All jokes aside, I'm fully on board with something like that. It is a great idea for some areas and I'm sure would be helpful.
I just don't want to have to negotiate with Marxists, so any police reform we push right now is going to be perceived as giving concessions to them in my opinion. At the very least they want to be part of the discussion. I'd rather sit down with like-minded people such as you and discuss positive reforms where a compromise doesn't take us half way back to abolishment.
Jocko discussed it on Rogan and I'm sure on his own podcast. Cops are scared shitless because of inadequate training, being thrown to the wolves with virtually no ongoing training, and no ability to defend themselves in unarmed combat, and they make bad decisions because of it.
Came here to say exactly this. Jocko is former special forces and has trained cops. If that dude says cops need training, I'm trusting him over some random broad on twitter.
Completely. This broad is well intentioned but she's way out of her depth. Those of us with tactical experience and who are still involved with security can watch the myriad of police videos out there and point out the flaws where we see them. I've been on this rant for a long time (as in years) but when Jocko said many of the things I've been saying it made me feel like finally some sanity is entering the picture. Here's what is needed as far as "more training" -
Decompression time off the streets that is spent in the training environment
More deescalation techniques and trainings that are progressively complex and realistic in nature
More physical conflict training including BJJ, boxing, judo, and Muay Thai. Put simply-- MMA training. This will increase officer confidence in physical confrontation, increase humility, increase their physical capability to mitigate using non lethal techniques, teach stress management, and provide fitness.
Two officers in every squad car as a standard. I'm aware this will decrease the available number of patrol cars and probably increase the budget, but it's necessary for all reasons listed above and then some. Oh no, we have less cops doing traffic enforcement. Whatever shall we do.
I'm in the industry. Trust me. This is what we need and I can quantify all of it.
Well said fellow Pede. Well said. Weed out the rotten apples in the force (they exist in every profession) but systematically blaming cops and not addressing the rampant crime and violence in communities is insane.
I agree to some extent but there are few PDs that need better training. I'm not saying all of them, just some. And yes, those parents need to better teach their kids.
The Jewish world literally holds barmitzphas or however you spell it, because a boy becomes a man when he's 12 because he now knows right from wrong. And should be held responsible because the parents prepared him for the world.
We have 15 quincieras for girls in the Spanish world as now they are adults, and sweet 16 in America.
If you don't know that looting, stealing, killing, harassing, screaming at strangers is wrong you deserve to die as you are proving the words of Jesus Christ as they are literally the children of the Devil. And they are made for the fire of Jesus Christ's return to judge the world.
So why haven't we just sent them there sooner since they aren't 12-17 year olds but are college aged 18-20s who are even to be held as more responsible yet are even more irresponsible and hateful and evil minded than Sodom and Gomorrah?
I've seen some stupid shit happen. Like that white guy who was unarmed and shot dead while on his knees. If people follow what they are being asked to do and they get shot, is that training or the person? Both?
I'm sick of people thinking COPS don't have the right to defend themselves too. Neither Soldiers nor Police should ever be pawns to be sacrificed.

We do need to fix it, just not right now.
What you said makes so much sense I'm not sure you'll ever get a government to agree with it.

I hate when they say that how about instead of police reform we need BLACK reform
We need POLICY reform, as DJT had implemented before the shutdown.
When the jobs came back, Black unemployment went down. Low Black unemployment correlates with lower crime and happier families.
Given a choice, Black people clearly prefer work to crime.
True.
If cops were allowed to USE their training, there would never have been riots in the first place.
Notice where the riots are. Notice where the riots aren't.
They don't need factory workers any more these kids only need to be smart enough to throw trash cans through windows.
Well said fellow Pede. Well said. Weed out the rotten apples in the force (they exist in every profession) but systematically blaming cops and not addressing the rampant crime and violence in communities is insane.

A Marxist learns that all is permissible to further the party's goals. Not only permissible, but required.
I've seen some stupid shit happen. Like that white guy who was unarmed and shot dead while on his knees. If people follow what they are being asked to do and they get shot, is that training or the person? Both?
Cops do need more training and also parents are failing their children both things are true.
