If you’re a business owner, what’s preventing you from just unloading on looters? You are completely within your rights to just start executing anyone who threatens your livelihood

I think Illinois has Castle Doctrine?

It's dangerous. The looters are also armed and they outnumber you.

Castle doctrine only applies to your home (aka, your castle). It's meaningless for business-owners unless the business is also a home.

It varies by state. Sometimes, it applies to businesses.

Rights are not the same thing as laws. It was legal for democrats to enslave Africans, but it violated human rights.
