I’m interested in everyone’s take on this. I explain to my wife how Kumala has no ideals or thoughts of her own, and she said isn’t that the point of a politician. Essentially saying that a politician should just float with the public sentiment wind.

So officials should rise to reflect the opinion of those they represent. The difference is sharing those actual beliefs and pretending to share those beliefs.

Example: Paul Ryan was the VP Candidate for the Republican Party with Romney. Paul was speaker of the house with Republican control of both houses and the Presidency in 2017. You would think Paul would have floored votes to pass laws he campaigned on. Instead he went silent, disappeared and then retired.

He had the chance to fulfill his campaign promises and that is when we found out he did not actually believe in those things.

If he was going to end his career, why not go down flooring a vote a day?

The wife in question asks "Kumala has no ideals or thoughts of her own, and she said isn’t that the point of a politician"?

The point of politicians in a representative based form of government is to represent and not pretend to represent. To show leadership of those positions and to solve problems the people are facing

Which is why a smart population elects one of their own, not generational groomed politicians.

Politicians are supposed to listen to their constituents and use their feedback to make public policy. But the politician should hold a set of core values that helps guide them, as well as tell the public how they lean on the larger issues.
Politicians are not supposed to be empty vessels that listen to only the party insiders. There's no way the public can trust someone like that. There's no way their colleagues can work with someone like that.

It's the people behind the scens they are beholden to that are the problem. Harris puts her finger to the wind because she just wants to get in office. Once there she won't even give her voters/supporters what they want. It's like Obama and Clinton.

The entire problem with this country is we have politicians that act exactly how your wife thinks they should act.
