His biggest controversy was that he slowed down at the end of the 100m dash final at the Beijing Olympics. He had such a huge lead that he started celebrating at the 80 meter mark. Despite slowing down, he still managed to get gold and break his own world record. https://youtu.be/o-urnlaJpOA

Between watching him and Phelps get 8 gold medals in swimming, the 2008 summer olympics will always be my favorite.

Phelps and Bolt made the Olympics something really special in those years. Now we will probably see less raw athletic ability and more virtue signaling and politicization.

I remember being dumbfounded upon watching a news report that detailed what Phelps ate during his Olympic career, for that week at least he was having around 12,000 calories per day.

He ate more for breakfast than I would have in three days. His body just needed that ridiculous amount of energy to achieve the feats he did.

If you like swimming, Katie Ledecky is fun to watch. She is on a whole different level than everyone else in the sport, similar to how Usain Bolt was. She is actually further ahead of the rest of the pack than Phelps ever was. The difference between Phelps and her is that she only dominates in 3 individual events, where as Phelps was able to pull out victories in 4 individual events. The races are also not as exciting because she wins them by so much lol. It’s still super impressive to watch.
