Until we get the 3 way switch again (2nd term? idk, maybe?). Until we get the 3-way switch, people are saying .308 is the way to go! Lots of people are saying that, smart people, people you would know. I'm not saying it, I could say it, but I'm not, I might say it some time. Lots of people are saying .308 is the way to go.
I have a .308 AR-10 it’s heavy as shit. Definitely a bench gun but still very fun and accurate.
Plus if the liberals ask you can tell them it’s 5 AR’s less deadly than an AR-15!
Why is your .308 heavier? I had not looked but they can't be that much bigger. I would say the ar15 is light as shit, and something a little heavier might be preferred, like, idk, an AK in .30. People say an AK is better, smart people, people you would know. I'm not saying the AK is better, I could say it, but I'm not. But lots of people are saying it.
AR-10s are heavy. The bolt itself is much larger and way heavier. The receivers are substantially larger and the buffer needs to be heavier to compensate for the much larger round. The barrels need to be larger as well. Then the weight difference of a loaded .308 mag vs a .556 mag. It adds up quick.
POF makes a badass AR-15 in .308 that is ridiculously light. Unfortunately the Revolutions are damn near impossible to find right now.
No, I'm not, 300 blackout is a sub caliber, .308 is a rifle caliber. I know what an ar15 is and I know what a ar10 is. The m4 shoots puny little bullets, because it will be more controlable in full automatic mode. Since mine does not have full auto, I might as well have a .308, the big bullet. because bigger bullets, generally are better. I had not looked into it far enough to see how much heavier the gun might be. And then you start to realise, hey, there are some other pretty good battle rifles in .308, and some of them even have pistons......
I'm not real interesting in 300bo the 7.62x39 is a great cartridge, it I only had one carbine, it might very well be 7.62x39.
I see you're in California with the fin behind the grip. If you want to have that removed and have all the traditional features talk to your gun store. There is a way to convert it legally that will not impact the usability. I don't want to say so here because they don't want pussies to Wine about it and since they won't step inside of a gun store you and I and the gun dealer will be the only ones that know how to do it
thanks friend. Yeah, I know how CA is w/ their dumb rules (we're about to lose lyft/uber...) but until we have to leave, I may as well do the best I can.
An AR (and learning to use it) is the best investment that anyone can make.
I'm sorry to say, but however fun and lovely they are, pistols, shotguns and hunting rifles will not cut mustard when the time comes (and are virtually useless tactically, except shotguns in rare circumstances). There is going to be a huge divide between the guys who got serious, and those who did not.
Fortunately, we have about 5-10 years before everything goes to shit. But it's coming and is at this point, imo, irreversible.
I bought a Remington 700 308 because I already had an AR-10 and I didn’t want to be buying several different cartridges. 308 is a workhorse, but it’s not the best cartridge out there. The round will break down at 1,000 yards.
If I had it to do over I would go with a long action. Maybe in the coming years.
Slightly less kick than a 30-06 (10%). Very slightly less velocity (5%). Shorter case allows for smaller throw on the bolt for faster followup shots. 308 is available on modern semi-auto rifles, 30-06 not so much. 308 is basically better in every single way than 30-30 unless you really want the lever action.
Both 30-06 and 308 are good out to about 600 yards, but if you want to reach out and touch someone further away, I'd recommend something more boutique such as 6.5 creedmoor (308 with better ballistic coefficient bullets) but you can still find modern guns such as a CMMG or PSA AR10
3/4; honestly, I don’t remember. I remember once hitting all ten at 500 one of the days leading up to qual day, but not actually when it counted. But I’d have to guess I averaged seven or so at 500.
I would disagree with the shotgun assessment in a tight quarters type area like an apartment. Plus, at least for now, it's the only thing I have experience with.
I'm sticking with what I know how to use for now. But trust me an ar is in the future plans.
The Colt revolver didn't win the west. The shotgun won the west. You don't have to be pin-point accurate. And most shootouts were at close enough range for them to be effective.
I love AR's though, but for right now I at least have some experience with a shotgun, and a gun you have experience with is better than something brand new.
Slugs are also a thing to increase a little distance, but the scenario that worries me most is "peaceful protests" entering my living area.
If you're barricaded in your apartment, then a shotgun is fine. But as far as making a difference or joining up with others, you'll be largely useless in any group setting.
That said, I can't think highly enough of those who go from nothing at all to buying a pistol or shotgun. At least you won't be meat for the grinder.
But ideally, a patriot like yourself should prepare themselves for the day when they might need to (as awful as it sounds) be incorporated into an ad hoc militia if necessary for communal defense. Pistols and shotguns are useless in such a setting.
You can find an inexpensive AR for less than half the cost of a new smartphone.
You can find an inexpensive AR for less than half the cost of a new smartphone.
I'm aware. I unfortunately live in Commiefornia, things are difficult here. I may also have some legal issues preventing me from owning a gun right now, I'm not 100% sure, but I really do need to go speak with a lawyer soon before the shortage takes literally ALL ammo.
But hey, I do appreciate the positive words, thank you.
I understand. But just keep in mind that whatever obstacles you are up against now, will only get worse as time goes on. It's already harder to buy an AR in California in 2020, than it was in 2015.
Still. It's absolutely the case that government has spent an inordinate amount of effort on making such a basic right a bureaucratic nightmare to overcome, and I fully empathize.
I picked up my AR-15 at Rural King last Sunday. I purchased online on 7/31. At the store, I had to wait 30 minutes for my background check to go through. The longest I've ever had to wait.
Shoot. Last week at the store, my background check came back before the salesman even finished his part of the paperwork. Probably the fastest I've ever seen it go through.
well, I had meant California has a ten day waiting period before you can actually even take possession of your gun, versus other states that have a 3 day period.
But I hear you, the wait times even in brick and mortar stores are insane right now.
Dam I’m jealous. Here in CA we have to make an appointment just to go to the gun shop. Then fill out paperwork. Present everything. Then wait for the background check period to pass then make another appointment to go pick it up. It’s nuts in LA
Idk about that. I have several hunting rifles and I'm not one to go stand right in front of gunfire. I'll be posted up in an eagles nest making every round count.
You don't even know what serious shit is yet. Just wait and see. This is just the beginning, and it will accelerate when Trump wins re-elections, as more leftist elements give way to despair and terrorism.
There's going to be a few years where the police and national guard are still expected to take care of it. If Trumps wins re-election, he'll force the federal and military agencies to play a bigger role. If Biden wins (ugh), there'll be a brief wave of triumphalism from the left.
In either case, what follows next will require several years to play out (either leftists resorting more and more to terrorism and hysteria, or carrying out a hysterical purge to try and cement their advantage forever, ram through gun legislation, etc).
The climax of that will represent the real tipping point towards militias.
The only thing that could avert or delay this significantly, is a war with China. Which actually, would be the best thing that could happen to America. (they don't have enough nukes to ensure MAD, so likely wouldn't go nuclear).
May want to put a pad on the stock then. When I first got my 30-30 with a wood stock I fired 100 rounds through it and my shoulder was bruised and sore the next day. Felt a bit like freedom.
🇺🇲
Hells yes. I picked up a.357 revolver I’ll be showing next Sunday Gunday and I have a Springfield 1911 on hold. Just waiting for my 30 day period is over so I can start the background check here in CA
It’s so if a gun owner decides to go on a killing spree, they can’t hold the pistol grip very well, and Ittl save a gorillion lives. No way a crazy man hellbent on killing a bunch of people would cut off the fin before deciding to go nuts.
Forced California rules on AR-15s because they're scary. Really, thats it.
It is proof that the dems/libs really do want to take guns, and since they can't just do it outright, they are whittling away at rights slowly over time.
People aren't getting these types of grips because they like them, they're getting them because they HAVE to under California law.
Gunfighter Tactical. I've heard Second Amendment zone in rancho cucamunga offers something similar. If you're in San Diego feel free to shoot a line my way and we can throw down some lead. I built an AR10 not too long ago and need to get more trigger time with it.
Yeah and it’s like 900 bucks for a straight pull bolt action. So you spend another few hundred on a SA upper and you’ve got one for the price of two (no optic), that may actually still be considered illegal but nobody knows because there hasn’t been a test case. Fuckin commies man.
I've been looking to build one, anyone have experience with Christensen Carbon barrels? also 20 or 24", is it worth the extra length for that 100 or so FPS?. Looking for long range plink plink.

POF makes a badass AR-15 in .308 that is ridiculously light. Unfortunately the Revolutions are damn near impossible to find right now.
Ah, you cleared it up for me, that makes sense. The ar10 is not, the same as an 'ar15' chambered in .308.
You're thinking 300 blackout
No, I'm not, 300 blackout is a sub caliber, .308 is a rifle caliber. I know what an ar15 is and I know what a ar10 is. Sorry to trigger you, kind xir. I was not aware you could chamber an ar-15 in 308.
TheDirtmerchant answered correctly. All that he said plus I have a large 36x optic on top. I need to order an bipod I just keep forgetting.
Lol. Yeah I’ll tell them it’s an AR5
I have heard this said before. LULZ
What do you mean, three way switch?
Like sexes, except there are more than 2.
Bahahahahahahahhhh
I see you're in California with the fin behind the grip. If you want to have that removed and have all the traditional features talk to your gun store. I'm not complying.
Wait, you can get an AR-10 in CA? Or do you need special dispensation? Like being law enforcement? ex-army?
They're fine as long as it has a little peice of plastic keeping your thumb from holding the grip safely. California is retarded. And gay
Yes you can get an AR10 in Ca. No special anything needed. There’s just that fin behind the grip keeping you from gripping the handle fully.
thanks friend. Yeah, I know how CA is w/ their dumb rules (we're about to lose lyft/uber...) but until we have to leave, I may as well do the best I can.
Its whine anyway. They don't want pussies to whine. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Karen.
I would love to get rid of that fin. I’ll have to call the gun shop and see what they say
An AR (and learning to use it) is the best investment that anyone can make.
I'm sorry to say, but however fun and lovely they are, pistols, shotguns and hunting rifles will not cut mustard when the time comes (and are virtually useless tactically, except shotguns in rare circumstances). Disagree with you on the bolt action. I was a Marine Corps rifle expert and I’m pretty sure I could do some serious damage from 800 yards away. 😉
But yeah, I’ve got a 308 autoloader also.
An unarmed marine (what a horrible idea) is better than a civilian with an AR-15. God bless you. But those who have nothing have to start somewhere.
I never served, but I'm a hunter and can in fact do damage at 800 yards with a 30-06.
I've never shot a 308. How does it compare to the 30-30 or 30-06?
Recoil wise my 30-06 has quite a bit more recoil, I added a brake to tame it down.
Long action, now you are talking, 300 WM will knock down any game animal in N America (I have a brake on that too), IMO this NEEDS a brake.
I’ve never shot those other two. 😂😂
I bought a Remington 700 308 because I already had an AR-10 and I didn’t want to be buying several different cartridges. 308 is a workhorse, but it’s not the best cartridge out there. The round will break down at 1,000 yards.

Thanks. Exactly what I was trying to figure out.
Boutique? I've been thinking about .280 AI for a year. I should just pull the trigger.
Negligible ballistics difference, < 200 fps.
how many expert badges did you get? and what was your score at the 500yd line?
3/4; honestly, I don’t remember. I remember once hitting all ten at 500 one of the days leading up to qual day, but not actually when it counted. But I’d have to guess I averaged seven or so at 500.

Exactly. We have to be ready for those so called peaceful protests
Especially if you have the misfortune of living in a democratic state.
If you're barricaded in your apartment, then a shotgun is fine. But as far as making a difference or joining up with others, you'll be largely useless in any group setting.

you got that right. we also have the longest waiting times for a gun, the highest taxes, etc. etc. etc.
I picked up my AR-15 at Rural King last Sunday. I purchased online on 7/31. At the store, I had to wait 30 minutes for my background check to go through. The longest I've ever had to wait.

Maybe he means until it comes to the rural areas
SWEET: Practice!
$1 a round though. Dang. Maybe practice with your 10/22.
We got them for $0.10 a piece, but that was only at the Gun-Show and a long time ago now....
Went to the range same day. Guns got some power
I've never shot one, but I hear it kicks similar to the Marlin 30-30.
Kicks with authority
May want to put a pad on the stock then. When I first got my 30-30 with a wood stock I fired 100 rounds through it and my shoulder was bruised and sore the next day. Felt a bit like freedom. 🇺🇲
Thanks pede
Commiefornia?
Yup! Fighting every chance I get
Good for you, friend. My state's F*d too.
Trying to get what we can, while we can, before it's all banned.
Hells yes. I picked up a.357 revolver I’ll be showing next Sunday Gunday and I have a Springfield 1911 on hold. Just waiting for my 30 day period is over so I can start the background check here in CA
Let's fill that bad boy up with some FREEDOM MAGS!
Trying to find a drum for my AR-10 has been impossible, but I've got plenty of 25 rounders to keep me busy
Nice!! 9th circuit in CA just ruled our 10 bullet limit unconstitutional. Higher capacity magazines may be just around the corner for us in CA
I have a 10-22 and an AR10 in 308.
The 10-22 is fun.
The AR10 is raw power.
Poor California man.
I know pede 🙁
But now the larger magazines, though....
Love it, looks like it has a 20 inch barrel from the point of view
Truly a longrifle.
It looks like a 16 inch to me. Those handguards are usually always 15 inches. I have a 20 on mine and it extends out of the handguard a good ways.
how hard are those grips to use? Stupid Commiefornia ....
What is the point? I don’t get it
It’s so if a gun owner decides to go on a killing spree, they can’t hold the pistol grip very well, and Ittl save a gorillion lives. No way a crazy man hellbent on killing a bunch of people would cut off the fin before deciding to go nuts.
My exact point. This bullshit keeps the law abiding citizen on an uneven playing field with the real criminal.
Thanks pede. You broke it down
No problem, hope I didn't get too preachy or anything.
Now you just need an AR-14 to complete the collection. Make it scary and black, and don't forget the shoulder things that go up.
Glad to see you can't murderify any kids since you have the fugly grip fin. Thanks Crapifornia!
You should upgrade I hear those AR-14s are in hot order about now. =P
Never even heard of AR 14’s. I’ll check it out.
Beautiful! I would love an ar-10. Up next is an ar pistol for wifey though.
I definitely want to get an AR pistol. The gun shop owner said there was only one kind on the roster. So sad over here.
If you are in Southern California there is more options than the CA7. San Diego has a shop that manufacturers them with very high quality parts.
What’s the name of the shop pede?
Gunfighter Tactical. I've heard Second Amendment zone in rancho cucamunga offers something similar. If you're in San Diego feel free to shoot a line my way and we can throw down some lead. I built an AR10 not too long ago and need to get more trigger time with it.

Contratulations! The AR-10 is 5x safer than the AR-15. Your family will thank you for that.
I definitely will be stopping people a good distance before coming closer to harm
That's a lot of freedom in every round
When I went to the gun range every head was turning when this beast exploded.
When I got my ar15 about a year ago I was eyeing an ar10 instead. Part of me wishes I would've got one. They're super cool.
This gun has enough balls to pass around. Serious fawking firepower
Forward assist on an AR10 - don’t let Chris from Small Arns Solutions see this!
Yeah a nasty ugly fin
Every time I see one of theses I just imagine level 3 plates getting vibe checked
Wow. Nice barrel cooler. Wish I had one of those back in 68.
What would you do in those days? Thick gloves?
Could this be the legendary AR-16?
Sr-25?
I've been looking to build one, anyone have experience with Christensen Carbon barrels? also 20 or 24", is it worth the extra length for that 100 or so FPS?. Looking for long range plink plink.
I have serveral 15s so not building for a defense weapon.
Love the AR10, but man is it heavy with a full 30rd mag!
Fellow californian here. In the process of putting a 556 together.
Why did u go with a fin grip?
Have u tried resurgent arms grip? Juggernaut tactical grip is prolly thr best, but not sure if it is 100% legals.
It a Springfield Armory Saint. Is there a grip I can legally change to in CA?
Fellow californian here; hellfighter mod kit. Look it up, its the best way to go for sure.
I like this grip, its one of the best:
https://resurgentarms.com/products/ra-featureless-rifle-grip?variant=32090275280
U can also try this grip, this one hands down the best, but is pushing legality, heavy and a little expensive.
https://jtactical.com/products/featureless-grip
Sparrow makes good grip too:
https://www.sparrowdynamics.com/Featureless-Grip-AR-p/crg-15.htm
These 3 are the best grips u ll find.
As long as it’s legal I’ll do it. Not a fan of that fin
I use the Sparrow grip on mine and it’s like a shotgun grip. 1000% better than the fin. Grab the sparrow and resurgent grip and have a ergonomics shootout. Can’t go wrong.
Fin is pretty old school.
I would go with sparrow or resurgent.
