There is a lot of money in the gaming market. It’s unbelievable. You may say, “yeah I know,” but to actually see the dollars pour in on a weekly basis, it’s staggering. I worked on a certain matter for a certain gaming platform for a corporate litigation matter. The gaming service was a straight cash cow. And yes, in-game/app purchases were a significant chunk.
Game developers and platform providers both are just stuffing pockets with cash at the expense of some parents who would rather defer parenting to a screen than to pick up a glove and go outside and play catch together. My friends are included in this.
I'm not saying a conspiracy, but definitely exploitation of young children through in-game gambling mechanics that leads to gambling addiction throughout life.
In cs:go you can see how much you've spent I'm ashamed at myself for spending around $220 then my friend tells me he has spent over $1000. We do the same job so I know how much he makes and it saddens me as he likes to gamble alot on the various skin cites.

The only place I buy loot boxes is in DotA2.
The only time I buy them is when it’s content creator sets or for the annual battlepass.
The content creator sets pay a chunk to artists that created them through the community market.
The battlepass funds the annual tournament (insane prize pool) and the game itself, which is entirely free to play.
This is where you gotta parent and parent hard.
