Its all about bullet selection. I got the .458 for that reason. Uses .45-70 bullets, and there is a large variety of them. Possibly the most versatile cartridge out there.
I was unaware that .458 could run .45-70. Honestly, Im pretty ignorant on the big bore AR-15s which is why Im asking questions. Thanks for your input, dude.
Mine would be a range toy for sure. Im really not concerned with anything over 100yds as I have other guns I prefer to shoot past that on the rare occasion I get an opportunity. It would be the "want to shoot something kind of ridiculous" gun or the "oh look a cinder block" gun. Im going to have to start monitoring ammo availability and pricing a little more closely.
Did you consider .458 Socom or .50 Beowulf? Just curious as I'm getting antsy about a big bore AR.

Uses the same projectiles at similar velocity. Brass is different.
I did - ruled out the Socom because it seems to be tougher / more limited on ammo. .50 Beowulf was similar. Also the 450 has the least drop at 200yds
Only because SAAMI refuses to endorse it. So ammo isn't the easiest, but because of the bullets, cheaper to reload. Nice pipe either way!
