After Jarjar, Lucas has no reason to complain about ANYTHING anyone does to the franchise. I do not think any single character in any film has ever been so thoroughly annoying to everyone, before or since.
Jar Jar was only the most obvious problem with the prequels. Those things were so bad, and break so much of OT lore that I prefer to just pretend they didn't happen, or were Anakin's fever dream as he died on the death star at the end of RotJ.

The gist of it is he was the first fully animated main character in film, and when people hated him, they hated the actor that played him, not really realizing that he was completely CGI.
