I think there are some crimes where making the criminal sit peacefully in a cell being clothed and fed doesn't cut it at all.
Given what jail does in terms of perpetuating prison culture, there are some crimes where I honestly feel like the punishment should be closer to getting beaten up and some restitution.

For example, getting him to plead guilty to avoid the expense of a trial on the condition he doesn't get the death penalty. Even if they get him sentenced to death, there is always a very lengthy appeals process. He also can say something like guilty by reason of insanity or claim he had some weird emotional response and that his actions were not deliberate, but the product of either mental illness or some "heightened emotional state" brought on by PTSD or rage induced by the sounds of children playing or entering his property or something. These are all the standard avenues his defense lawyers will attempt, probably among others.
Oh I don't trust our justice system at all. In fact, I think it needs a major overhaul. There are far too many 'loopholes' that sleazy defense lawyers exploit to get scumbags like this set free. I've seen it happen far too many times in my lifetime.

I'm all for the death penalty, but I think this case is special and needs some real thought and more than a little creativity. Our ancestors had some excellent ideas. Wherever you're from people the world over understood that brutality is a wonderful deterrent.

"Life in prison" is not in any way acceptable in this case. The jogger murdered a preschooler in front of his family. He should not be allowed to live for free in prison at taxpayer cost, while continuing to prey on weaker inmates to get his jollies. There has got to be more to this story. Neighbors for years, dinner with the boy's father the night before. Executed in the front yard the next day. As I said, there's more to this story.

I want the death penalty for his killer, for CNN defaming the dad, and for anyone who made excuses/apologies for the killer. And for everyone funding the domestic terrorism that probably played a part in pushing this psycho over the edge. And for all the participants in that domestic terrorism.
