Other than the mailboxes out in the parking lot of my local post office, I can't even think of where I have seen a free standing mail box last. It's been a looooong time. When I grew up, they were ubiquitous.
As to the argument that removing the boxes is somehow interfering with the vote or with grandma getting mail order meds, every single mailbox in America is also officially used for outgoing mail, the whole purpose of the red flag.
The only possible complaint here would be if you are homeless and don't have a mailbox. If you're homeless and you hope to get a mail in ballot, you'll have to have it mailed somewhere, like, oh, I don't know, a homeless shelter or a family or friend's house where they [gasp] have a mailbox.
This is one of the lefts more stupid hills to die on, and that's saying something. I fondly remember when they died on "not one penny for a wall." 275+miles later and I'm still laughing about that.
