Cops are NPCs. I understand their thought process when they are told to not arrest antifa or be fired and lose their income.
However just try talking to a cop about freedom, they will fully support it until you ask why they arrested or ticketed a person in specific cases and they just revert back to programming.
All cops are NPCs because only NPCs would willingly become cops. No intelligent person would join a profession where you get fired for defending people.
You can defend yourself against an attacking, but not too much. Just equal or less force. For example, if you crack an unarmed intruder in the face with a bat, they'll reward that fucker $50k because he was unarmed. If you kill an attacker, your best hope is to be charged with man slaughter. In some states, they'll get you for murder.
But you can't defend someone else. For example, if you come home to an asshole raping your wife, just turn around and call a cop. They might be there in 30 minutes or so. But if you attack the asshole, then the government could say they presented no danger to you. For example my cousin. He got stabbed for try to protect two girls being slapped around by an asshole, guess who goes to jail? He did! The asshole walked.
