Unnecessary law ripe for abuse, how about people just form their own judgments and not decide where to eat because of yelp

Honestly, the people who use reviews to decide where to go are unlikely to be locals, so it depends on what your business strategy is.

Just get rid of google and do a restart on the internet lol

Seriously tho, break up google. Maybe even make parts of it public if it affects businesses that much - to avoid defamation and libel. Or make google liable for lawsuit if they allow slander/libel on their apps, in searches, reviews etc. (edit: so that just goes back to your original point lol, just in a slightly different way)

I screenshotted this one a while ago. I don't think I've ever facepalmed so hard over a review. People are fucking dumb.

That review was responsible for the 4 stars instead of 5.

The problem is not people exercising their free speech, but a company gaining to much power and control. If a business does something bad I will leave them negative feedback. If they do something good I will leave good feedback. There's never anything wrong with someone exercising their right to free speech and sharing their opinion. No one appreciates others who try to silence them. That's why this platform is off reddit now. Reddit loses ad revenue from it too.

For example, most people find one of my businesses by searching on Google. If my rating drops from a 5.0 to a 4.9, suddenly all my competitors will show up on Google ahead of me, and my business will be fucked and I'd have to close up, my business would be over.

Honestly this sounds like bad ownership. If your entire business is teetering on a single .1 rating then you need to think about your marketing strategy.

When we were exploring this area prior to moving here, I found what is now one of our favorite restaurants because of a bad review. Person had left a one-star review despite never even entering the place, based solely on the sign in the front window stating "guns are welcome here". Decided we needed to go eat there, and loved it!

I have 2 1 star reviews. 1 I pretty much ignored because she was insane, pregnant and he said he was about to leave because she was crazy. It showed in the review.

The other one pulled the single mother and a teacher card. She was a complete cunt and left reviews all over the web. I ripped her a new asshole because she needed it and was a cunt. It's funny the number of people who call me because of my resopnse to that review. I didn't back down and say I was sorry, I spilled the beans and told her she was a horrible customer and I don't want customers like that, pointed out how me "ripping her off" comparing my price to craigslist junkees and people that don't have legetimate businesses and insurance was bullshit, in the most diplomatic way possible of course.

Yeah I can hear this cunt seething through her keyboard.

Maybe if her husband would stop looking at guy’s bulges on the internet, and plow her every now and then, Karen wouldn’t have to be such a passive-aggressive bitch.

It doesn't work that way in the real world. Honest small businesses get destroyed because of fraudulent online reviews. It's an absolute racket.

we need to be able to review the reviews!

God my girlfriend gets bent out of shape when some hormonal nutjob writes her a bad review. I want to find them myself and slap them for the anguish they caused ME.

Yelp, and rating systems in general are completely inaccurate.

Big companies can still maintain that 99% positive review no matter what. Shilled reviews, fake reviews, "brushing" scams to submit reviews.

Did some small sales on eBay and if I got a negative review, my score would take a huge hit

There should also be laws against people getting sued by leaving honest reviews on Yelp.

I make it a point to only leave positive reviews for businesses that go above and beyond my expectations. I would rather just not go back then leave a negative review.
