So I finally added a country station (Highway 20) to my SiriusXM menu just to see what I may be missing out on currently. I love Zac Brown and I was there at Red Rocks when Colder Weather debuted, I enjoy the wildly popular country songs most of us have heard, but I wanted to see what else was out there. Inspired by a recent R&B song put out by some ex-stripper, I wondered how some top country songs lyrics compared to top R&B/Rap. Full disclosure, I grew up on a number of artists, from 3rd Bass to Slick Rick to Bob Seger to Metallica to Stevie Wonder to Michael. I have more roots in Rap, but smart enough to appreciate good music of all kinds.. I never hated any one genre.

I am putting these songs under the R&B umbrella, but they are more likely rap if we're being specific.

I took the Billboard/iHeart/Spotify/Youtube results and found these songs to be the most popular..I took the important lyrics and posted them. Otherwise this would be too long.

Da Baby: Rockstar

As far as I can tell, being a rockstar makes you dislike the police, want to shoot people, talk about shooting people. "I got a big drum, it hold a hundred, ain't goin' for nothin'. I'm ready to air it out on all these niggas, I can see 'em runnin". Apparently he is happy with the large capacity restriction removal so he can shoot more "niggas".

Pop Smoke: Mood Swings

Apparently the mood he is in would be called" horny". He is going to buy this girl material name-brand things, and then treat her like a whore. "I see the pussy through the panties" and .."nut on your breasts" ..a real poet.

Cardi B and Megan thee Stallion: Wet Ass Pussy

You read that correctly. This isn't about her cat that is getting a bath, this is straight up porn. This is 2 whores telling people about their wet pussy. This is a top song right now. "Spit in my mouth, look in my eyes, This pussy is wet, come take a dive". I bet their family is beaming with pride. BTW, isn't a stallion a male horse? What a weird name for a girl.

Now on to Country

Gaby Barrett: Die from a Broken Heart

As far as I can tell, her then-amazing boyfriend cheated on her, and she's hurting so badly she wants to know if it is possible to die from a broken heart. The lead up is nice, how well he did treat her before he left her..if that's any consolation. "She's everything you're ever gonna need..And then I hope she cheats". Well, she wants him to feel the same pain.

Chris Janson: Done

He fell in love with this girl the first time her met her. He then goes on and talks about building their home, changing his ways for her because he's done with everything and everyone else. Heartwarming. "There was nothing I wouldn't do just to give you that house on the hill with the 4-plank around it". Sounds like he's a provider

Maren Morris: The Bones

This song discusses how her and her man have withstood so much, and yet made it through together. Being by each others side, and weathering every storm. a good couple who supports one another. "Baby, I know any storm we're facing will blow right over while we stay put". A couple knowing they have a great bond together.

I actually started listening to the Christian music station. Haven't done that since Belinda Carlisle.

You're on a journey now and it's a hundred years old at least.

Yep. Don’t get me wrong, I like the hooks in hip hop songs. They’re catchy.

But I can’t support the music. If the plight of black people is as bad as they say, then they need to stop glorifying it. Women are bitches and hoes that neither deserve nor get respect. The value of men is measured in rim size, narcotic weight, or crime count.

Look, man: if you want to be treated better, be better. Emphasize what will help your people.

I’ll take country’s message any day: god, country, family, neighborhoods. It’s no wonder people are where they are respectively.

Messaging matters.

Ive been earmarking a lot of songs and listening to them later.

Little Big Town, Kane Brown, Jason Aldean, Jana Kramer, Justin Moore .. some fun stuff, some feel good stuff, but nothing violent nor disgusting.
