It has to be some sort of hormone imbalance that is probably a byproduct of all the processed food we eat, and our parents ate over their life before we were born. I did a write up before on how absolutely atrocious and even how processed food is a crime against humanity, and I guarantee that is what is causing a lot of problems in society today that are not just obesity related.
I mean I know its hard to find pictures of "average" people from back in the day because photos were more rare and people tended to dress up nicer for photos, but see if you can find some family photos of what men looked like starting with your grandfather and beyond. Compare it to what a lot of men look like today. Almost like a totally different type of person.
I have a picture of my great great grandfather from 1922. He's old, 76, but smoking a pipe. Got a paunch but not obese. Look at fit folk from the 1950s, not ripped but still muscular and fit, despite supposed poor diet and exercise and smokers. We are more sedentary these days but I believe you're right, the food we eat plays a big role.
When the govt started pushing for vegetable oil instead of lard. When the govt started telling us fats (an essential nutrient) was bad for us. When the govt. Allowed processed food companies like nestle to advertise hyper paletable foods to children. When americans were tricked into thinking corn flakes and donuts were breakfasts.
Obesity skyrocketed.
Lack of exercise and soy.
