I guess... I see too many ideas get stretched, pushed, and\or expanded too frequently to believe slippery slope is a fallacy. I usually assume its going to happen especially when acquiring power is involved
It's a fallacy in the sense that there are behaviors in human nature that create negative consequences, and the fallacy in the slippery slope argument is that those negative consequences will not eventually be self correcting.
The problem here is that we stopped teaching values. Abstinence and values could easily be applied to gay relationships as they are hetero. It has been my lifetime experience that as gay has become normalized, the value of monogamy let's say, has become easier to adopt.
IOW, truck stop sex and bath houses become less appealing as you can find a same sex person and have a societally normal monogamous relationship. It doesn't mean promiscuity or deviancy goes completely away, but the need to engage in risky behavior is reduced, and the value of good behavior brought back into play.
Behaviors are naturally good or bad due to human nature being immutable, we just need the courage to promote the good ones in any framework. Like mental illness cannot be addressed with surgery, just as loneliness cannot be addressed with truck stop gay sex.
I am not gay btw, and never had truck stop sex. It's just the best example that springs to mind. :)
Ive never understood why its a logical fallacy. No one that stands by it could explain it to me either. All the other fallacies make sense
