It's OK to act masculine or feminine regardless of sex. They don't need other people to force them into gender norms. They can love and be in a relationship with who they please. They can't force others to accept them, and just changing their body won't make their pain go away. One must love themselves before expecting anyone else to.

You'll need to ask questions and understand the child to know how to respond, but they need to know that their biological sex will never change. If you surgically grafted a trunk on, you wouldn't become an elephant would you?
Let them know about the detrans movement. There are discussion forums out there like "/r/detrans/" on reddit. That forum specifically is very controlled, like all of reddit, so it's very pro-LGBT. I don't know the best place so this is something you'll want to review ahead of time, but it should help to know there are other people out there who feel the way they do but DON'T need to transition, or did and want to go back. (it's not like removing a tattoo...)
