I mean social security is kind of stupid. Could pay into your whole life but if you die before getting any return your family sees 0 of it. I'd be for getting rid of it.
FDR threatening the Supreme Court. I want there to be an option out of all social programs SO MUCH! Let those who think they need the government programs keep shoveling money in, but let those of us who don't want it out.
Hoodwinked means you were fooled. We got jewed. We know it's theft each time we pay into it but we're being forced into paying it vs making a harsh decision. Sometimes the harsh decision the the most merciful for society as a whole
It wasn't really this. The idea of social security, at its' foundation, is that most people would never see it. Most people would be dead before eligible. In the first year, 1937, only 53,236 people classified as beneficiaries. The total payout was $1,278,000. Within just 13 years, 1950, over 3 million people were on social security with a payout of nearly a billion dollars. The entire idea was never meant to be "retirement," but that is what it became. Nobody should ever rely on the government, let alone rely on the government for retirement. For Social Security to work as intended, the eligibility age should be much higher.
So... how did we get hoodwinked out of our money? It should be up to each generation if they want to be throwing piles of cash into a money pit. The government shouldn't be able to create social programs that will stretch nearly 100 years and not adjust to current realities (as you said, too many people drawing from it, not to mention misappropriation of funds).
As with any socialist policy, it creates a large group of people who become solely reliant on the government. There are so many people that need social security today, that it would take a real effort to fix it, and politicians aren't about trying to do actual work. It has become a completely pyramid scheme, where current tax payers have to pay in, or the entire pyramid crumbles. Additionally, we have generations of individuals that have "paid in" to the social security scam, and very few people are okay with just never seeing that money again.
FDR fucked this country so hard. I hate that schools deify his dumbass. They treat his power grab 4 election run like it was some great sacrifice. Fucker thought he was more important than George Washington. Even God got tired of his shit and took him out during his FOURTH term.
My mother died at 63 while I was in college, had maxed out her as as well as my dad, our options were either take 0 of her ss or 75% for 2 years until my dad's would kick in at 100%. She worked her whole life at times making more than my dad to have it all ponzi'd away.
That seath benefit amount has not changed throughout the years, but spouse can recieve income for children 16 and under and kids 18 and under receive income.
But as other posters have said, it is a Ponzi scheme
Just let me invest my own money tax free.
Have a safety net for those who are mentally or physically unfit to do that.
Let me pass it down to my kids tax free.
Same with health care.
Within 1 generation the problem would be solved forever.
Social security needed to be terminated as soon as it was implemented by FDR. Today over 66% of the annual budget goes toward entitlements. The libertarian think-tank "Mises Institute" agrees: https://mises.org/wire/social-security-terrible-investment
I’d say everyone above 55 now is grandfathered. Everyone who has worked and is below 55 should get everything they paid back (gradually). As that goes into effect, paychecks stop mandatory ssi deducting and perhaps those dumb enough to trust the govt can have an optional program that must compete against private sector.
Wow.. I found the only other person on the internet that understands how a ponzi scheme works. Please tell me that you also understand how MLMs are operating the same way.
I wouldn't say never. Eventually you will run out of other people's money to pay for it. SS is expected to run out by the 30s. Medicare will fail first though. Once that fails you'll know SS is soon to go
I advocate on cutting Social Security right now, would take a 40 year phase out but I’m ready to vote on it now. If I would have invested that 14% of my paycheck for the last 38 years I’d have millions of dollars that wouldn’t be in government control.
I don't know whether to believe this or not, because it's Joe Biden saying it. If the guy isn't lying, then he's babbling incoherently. Can't trust anything that comes out of his mouth.
I mean social security is kind of stupid. Could pay into your whole life but if you die before getting any return your family sees 0 of it. I'd be for getting rid of it.
It could be made into an individual account, like an IRA. You could get returns on it and it would illustrate what a grift the whole thing is.
Or... you could just get an actual IRA instead of an inefficient 'government program'.
You shouldn't cater to the lazy and stupid but push people to better themselves and plan for the future.
Yes, I don't know how we got hoodwinked into trusting the government with our money in the first place.
FDR threatening the Supreme Court. I want there to be an option out of all social programs SO MUCH! Let those who think they need the government programs keep shoveling money in, but let those of us who don't want it out.
Just cut me a check (with interest) for all the money the govt has stolen from me as I opt out please.
They already spent that money
Don't worry Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It's like a really nice car payment per month at least.
Hoodwinked means you were fooled. We got jewed. We know it's theft each time we pay into it but we're being forced into paying it vs making a harsh decision. Sometimes the harsh decision the the most merciful for society as a whole
FDR was a smooth talker.
He was also a piece of shit. TAXATION IS THEFT.

Average life expectancy of a male was 55 years old back then. Total scam to begin with.

SSA passed in 1935, and the first checks were issued in 1940. Imagine if you started drawing on an investment account with only 5 years 'growth'.
It's a ponzi scheme.
Ideally.... I guess I was thinking in baby steps.
I’m sitting here thinking about how much bigger my ira would be right now if I wasn’t robbed every pay period.
Now think about how much more your employers could pay you if they didn't have to match those SS deductions.
Now think about how much more money I’d be infusing into local businesses.
Yeah, 15% to start, then compound interest.
Bush wanted to privatize like one percent... Dems wouldn't have it. They all suck his balls now.
FDR fucked this country so hard. I hate that schools deify his dumbass. They treat his power grab 4 election run like it was some great sacrifice. Fucker thought he was more important than George Washington. Even God got tired of his shit and took him out during his FOURTH term.
Your family does get benefits if you die though, assuming, you have younger children.
https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/survivors/ifyou.html
I do agree it should be replaced with something else as it’s not sustainable.
Agreed

Looks like they give pennies on the dollar if you die.
That seath benefit amount has not changed throughout the years, but spouse can recieve income for children 16 and under and kids 18 and under receive income.

There should be a way to get your family out of it. Say I don't take mine, then any children after me are free at last!
Just let me invest my own money tax free. Have a safety net for those who are mentally or physically unfit to do that. Let me pass it down to my kids tax free. Same with health care. Within 1 generation the problem would be solved forever.

Yes.. A sliding scale method to phase it out would work
Wow.. I found the only other person on the internet that understands how a ponzi scheme works. Please tell me that you also understand how MLMs are operating the same way.
More people need to see Joe praising the "very fine people" who display the confederate flag, too.

This has been posted recently, but kind of got lost in all the posts because of high energy contributors here. :)
Fun fact. AntifaBLM wouldn't exist without social security and welfare
Thx for this.
Man he’s clubbing them like an Eskimo at a seal hunting.
Only he's just smirking as the seals club themselves.
It was still a commie program back then.
Joe Biden only advocates for advanced care in a nursing home.
I wouldn't say never. Eventually you will run out of other people's money to pay for it. SS is expected to run out by the 30s. Medicare will fail first though. Once that fails you'll know SS is soon to go
...that’s not a joke...
Funds are long since spent.
Haha my liberal coworkers have been on my ass about Trump taking these very programs away. Can’t wait to drop this on off hem at lunch!
No kidding, he doesn’t care because he will never receive nor does he need it after his back alley deals.
so all of our counrtys problems were created by the very people who say they know how to fix the issues.
he wants grammy and grampy to leave you a credit card bill instead of an estate
Too bad he's senile now and can't remember the few good positions he had 12+ years ago.
Social Security was a bad idea. I am fine with cutting funding to that debt-ridden pyramid scheme.
I advocate on cutting Social Security right now, would take a 40 year phase out but I’m ready to vote on it now. If I would have invested that 14% of my paycheck for the last 38 years I’d have millions of dollars that wouldn’t be in government control.
Wtf I like Biden now
Joe Biden doesn’t even know what pants to shit in today.
Wow that actually makes me like him more.
I've been advocating for cutting social security for almost that long. Meh.
Probably 1 of the few good things he supports actually
Smart man X'D
Social Security is the world’s biggest Ponzi scheme.
Social Security is collectivist horseshit anyway.
If your spouse/ex spouse dies you are eligible to collect SS. A guy could have three wife’s and they all can collect Monthly benefits.
I don't know whether to believe this or not, because it's Joe Biden saying it. If the guy isn't lying, then he's babbling incoherently. Can't trust anything that comes out of his mouth.
We need to redistribute Pelosi's stolen money.
