When someone is screaming at you for not wearing a mask, it sounds like they're mad at you. But mostly they're angry at themselves. Do masks work? they're not really sure, and they certainly haven't read the signs. but they feel like they have to and they're mad that they have to without knowing whether it will really help. They want you to suffer like they are suffering and so they lash out

The fear porn causes physical responses in the body. But they can't fight or flee so are stuck with the fear. With no outlet it devolves into anger and even rage. They want to blame someone else for the fear and anxiety they are feeling. They lash out at others "causing" their "risk" by not wearing mostly useless masks for a virus that over 99.9% of people survive.
You can't dispel their reactions with logic. The fear rules them.
