I mentioned above that red is a symbol of communism. When I watched the election coverage of the 1984 election, Reagan and Bush were in a field of blue. The states that Reagan won showed as blue. Mondale and Ferraro were in a field of red. Minnesota and D.C. showed up as red that night, the rest of the country was in a field of blue.
