Maybe. There's some chan educated kids who will probably show up here shortly to tell you what a disaster he was. Except, none of them were alive when he was President.
Reagan brought us out of the cold dark period of malaise that the peanut farmer created. Conservatism was saved from extinction. The man wasn't perfect but he was our champion.
I know. I hate that shit. Any punk that disrespects Ronald Reagan like that is an ungrateful brat. I grew up in the 80's. Without Reagan, conservatism would no longer exist. Everything about conservatism that appeals to the masses such as max tax cuts, de-regulation, peace through strength, etc... none of that would have been possible without Reagan.
In fact, without Reagan, conservatism would be viewed the same way libertarianism is today.
I was a kid when was president. He made me not afraid of the Russians any more. He made me realize that Americans and Russians had nothing to fear from each other anymore.
Oh yeah i love his mass immigration act that gave citizenship to millions of people forever changing certain states from ever being republican again. Like California.
He destroyed the last bit of the country with his amnesty, what conservatism did he exactly enable? What did he stop or change domestically vs what did he enable ultimately?
He talked the talk but he walked the modern uniparty walk and he accidentally put the last nails into conservatism's coffin. He ceded California to Mexico and while he helped spawn a evangelical Christian movement that took over the GOP, they immediately became creatures of the swamp and died, ineffective and failing in every way. How effective were they ultimately against gay marriage and transexual nonsense? They were a transient blip that made conservative values a huge joke and the country is now paying for it.
Truth hurts, but Reagan was a failure. He transitioned the traditional conservative base into a new neocon base. He might have said some of the right things but he enabled all the worst outcomes in the end. It wasn't all his fault, for sure, but he is directly responsible for many of the ills we are now cleaning up.
His very last line "The Government is Overfed." is probably one of my favorite Reagan Quotes.
Pretty sure Trump wore a super similar tie like last week or the week before.

He helped win the cold war without a shot being fired - all the while with Bush as his VP.
I loved Ronald Reagan.

He also made them realize the same thing.
