The rolling blackout policy is a result of the Camp fire in 2018 that wiped out the city of Paradise. PG&E was sued into bankruptcy, so now anytime we get a bad heatwave like we’re having now, PG&E and other gas/electric companies shut off the power lines so they can’t be held liable in case a fire starts.
One fact I never saw discussed is that California at the time didn’t perform controlled burns (Forest management 101) because of “muh environment” so anytime a wildfire did happen, it ended up being catastrophic. The camp fire wasn’t the only bad fire in CA that time. I lived in LA at the time and remember Malibu/Santa Clarita getting burned too.
California tries to blame the fires and rolling blackouts on global warming instead of our state failing to do basic maintenance and Forest management.
I really hope the California voters one day wake up because it’s a beautiful state but I am trying to move ASAP
