I have serious issues with both of them, but I like that they fight for reason.
For Ben, I think his never-Trump position shows his principles aren't as uncompromising as he thinks. Trump is not really conservative in any traditional sense, but in both his promises and in practice he's been more conservative and done more for restoring the balance to this country than Ronald Reagan. Everyone could see in 2016 that Hillary was promising to push us the rest of the way off the cliff edge Obama brought us to, and Trump was promising to walk back. If Ben were a real conservative nothing else would matter. But at least he argues with the left, and that counts for something.
Candace seems like a bit of an attention seeker to me. She never properly repudiated her doxxing site, but kept making excuses for it instead of owning that it was at best a misguided idea. But she has fought since then for conservative values, and she loves to chip away at the Democrats' evil identity politics.
What was her doxxing site? Also, didn’t she try to take advantage of Kanye’s supporting her? I recall him being pissed that she was trying to make it seem like he had partnered with her for the Blexit movement that she was trying to profit off of.
Her site was called Social Autopsy. The idea was to collect people's online comments and eventually match them to real IDs so they could be held accountable at their jobs, etc. That's a very, very bad idea. Instead of saying she realized in hindsight it was a bad idea, she would deflect and dissemble and try to change the subject.
The thing with Kanye is another example. I think she's an opportunist. But she's still fighting our corner so that's something.
Holy shit. That’s worse than I ever would have thought. Just straight up anti free speech. Makes you wonder if she actually understands conservatism fully.
During the fallout from Social Autopsy, she debated Blaire White on Dave Rubin's show. (Blaire is a trans YouTuber, but based and strongly against the outspoken crazies of the LGBT community as well as other SJWs.) Owens was extremely rude to Blaire, going out of her way to open up the debate by saying she doesn't believe trans is a real thing when there was no need to go there at all, and every time she faced a direct question on whether she would now denounce the site she deflected. It left a very bad taste in my mouth.
I've seen a lot of things from Owens since then that I liked, and I think on the whole she's an asset to the right right now. But she still needs to come to terms with her past and own her mistakes instead of trying to bury them, and she needs to treat people better. It would be unwise to trust her completely.
