How about ending property tax altogether. Taxing citizens on property they already own is wrong. Raising property taxes in one year by 800.00 is wrong.

Sounds great, but you'll have to replace it with something. Raise taxes elsewhere, or cut services. What's your proposal?

You're not really paying for the property you own, but for the maintenance of the all services in your city, like for instance the road that connect to your house.

If you don't pay it. They take your property. They don't take your road.

Only a fraction of my taxes goes to those services. Over 4000.00 of it goes to indoctrination centers.

We absolutely cannot allow Texas to fall to the Dims.

A border wall should help long term.

I was a little worried Texas wouldn't respond. I'm not disappointed by this.

They should have to refund, but this is a start

This is what happens when people from CA, NY, and NJ move to your state

Was getting worried about Gov. Abott

yep. on top of Austin cutting the police budget by 1/3rd they're trying to raise property taxes by 25% for their stupid light rail.

1
TheTeutonicSensation 1 point ago +1 / -0

Light rails are a complete joke. The Somali Trolley in Minneapolis is a complete waste of money, causes traffic jams, and has no law enforcement presence.

On a good day you can have a gang fight on a train, which causes the whole line to stop.

Wow, Abbot does something good for once during this pandemic.

Well, defunding the police will almost certainly cause property values to tank over time, so the only way to break even is to raise property taxes.

that's where you're wrong, bucko.

Fuck Austin. It’s a wanna be Portland. It’s full of libtards and it’s home to the most cucked university of Texas. It’s a filthy shithole Half full of homeless and drug addicted zombies And other half are libtard Californian and yankee transplants. All are clueless.

There has to be some sort of way to hold the city officials accountable. Dereliction of duty, criminal negligence... something to actually punish them with the force of the law. But this is at least a start.

This is what I dont like about texas and its draconian ways. Why cant they just let austin to its thing? most people live in the suburbs outside travis county anyway. Ive lived in republican and democrat states and texas by far has the least personal liberties and most fear of arrest. Florida is a similar state but anything goes there. Miami can do whatever the hell it wants and the governor wont interfere.

BaDRaZ24 4 points ago +4 / -0

Why can't one of the largest cities in the state take away the protection of its people with no repercussions? You just answered your own question.

It was wrong to defund the police and an example needed to be set for any other Dem mayors in case they wanted to destabilize their communities as well.

You sound like a reddit shill here to spew hate and fake opinions when you don't explain yourself more than "WhY cAnT tHEy JuSt LeT AuSTiN Do iTs THiNg ?"

1
cardinaldrones 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not a shill. I lived in texas and moved to florida. its a fun place and anything goes. Real freedom. Police are paid jack and "understaffed and underpaid". We keep our dogs on a leash because we like our low taxes and anything goes mentality. 100 in a 55mph? totally fine. Smoking weed in a park? nobody going to do jack. Sure they make laws here but nobody actually follows them. And its stable.

southernerd 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yep, it's frustrating when a bigger government that doesn't share your values rolls in and forces policies you don't like on you, isn't it?

1
cardinaldrones 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yea I was expecting texas to be a libertarian paradise when i got there from florida but after seeing so many people arrested for weed, trivial pullovers, fireworks arrests, party shutdowns/raids I quickly realized that florida was where the true freedom was.

1
ErraticA09 1 point ago +1 / -0

If you don't like it fucking leave. Austin isn't Texas, and it hasn't been for ages. The reason for that is people like you. I'm so fucking sick of watching liberal transplants with Bernie bumper stickers and out of state blue license plates infest this state. Fuck off, don't mess with Texas.

1
cardinaldrones 1 point ago +1 / -0

Except im not a liberal. I'm a trump supporter thats economically conservative and not socially conservative. I just think that Municipal govts should be allowed to do their thing. Like miami is its own country here and people run full on south american pharmacies with over the counter drugs that are supposed to be RX only in the usa and nobody cares or shuts them down. And I did leave austin around the time of the plastic bag ban and went to florida where theres true freedom because they never funded their police to begin with.

1
LeftistsAreInsane 1 point ago +1 / -0

You're an Obamacare shill.

1
cardinaldrones 1 point ago +1 / -0

No. I support trump. Just economically conservative and socailly liberal. Ive always been a moderate. Big ron paul supporter back in the day. I just think that municipalities should have a bit more sovereignty. And people can police themselves.
