I was just speaking to my friend from Peru and she showed me her voter ID. On the back it has sections where “i voted” stickers go and if you miss one you get fined. If you rack up enough penalties for not voting you start to lose rights, can’t travel, can’t fly, etc. And poll workers are selected at random sort of like jury duty and you get fined if you don’t show up.
All I ask is fucking require voter ID. This is America, we’re number 1 and yet we can’t get people to vote let alone have the fucking polls require something like ID. Horse shit

Does it make sense that the vote cast by an informed taxpayer counts the same as the vote cast by a welfare recipient who never pay taxes or by some third world immigrant who cannot read and write English and understand the American culture and history?
If you dont own property or a business you shouldnt get to vote. Skin in the game should be the barrier for entry.
Net taxpayers should also vote. If you served in the military you should get a vote if you weren’t dishonorably discharged.

I hate this argument . a democracy is only as good as the ethos and culture of the people that practice it and improving the system is in practice a culture war. trying to define who is eligible to vote or not, according to the ethos or culture of any subgroup in that democracy is a slippery slope. just no. BTW australia has a "forced" voting system with fines . and they are actually electing conservatives. forcing people to have a political view end up being beneficial to conservatives in the long run because it forces voters to be minimally informed and as conservatives win arguments, so the end result is actually great for conservatives in the long run.

Forget voter ID! There really needs to be provisions on who can vote. Some sort of qualifier someone has to meet before they're allowed. Something that anyone could conceivably attain. Like, for instance, some manner of public service - military, soup kitchen, whatever. A positive credit rating. Some manner of higher education degree or certification. Regular employment and a clean criminal record. Something. Anything that indicates that an individual can support themselves and think independently.
We have an entire subset of society that has never once been in any remote danger of ever having to think for themselves and who have never been far from their mother's tit or the warm glow of the idiot box. It's these smoothbrains who vote democrat for no other reason than because they're told to.

I actually agree with this. If there was a way you could track your vote but couldn’t be tracked the other way that would be ideal, sort of like the finger ink and ID setup but then the actual ballot gets coded in such a way only you have the “key” to track it. Still not sure how to prevent just ballot box stuffing behind the table though. It is sad though when we have to think like this, but the IRS went after conservative groups before so no reason to think things like that can’t be weaponized again. We should not have to be afraid of voting.

To prevent stuffing though, each party can have a few volunteers show up (armed, of course) to watch the boxes and supervise the counts... and never let a ballot out of site.
In pretty much every other first world country, you show up to the voting station. They ask for an official photo ID, look up your name on an alphabetical order list.... cross off your name with a highlighter. The you go to an other table where you are handed a paper ballot, you fill in in privately, come back and hand it over folded in 4 so they pull off the number registration tab that they put in a container while they hand you back your ballot that you put in the voting box all in view of 2 supervisors. Not that complicated, fool proof and basically cheat proof.
