Before the last Civil War, the Jeffersonians had been debating and fighting a cultural war againsts the Hamiltonian's for decades. It really formalized in the Election of 1800 and evolved from there.
How many people actually study that part of history anymore. My point is, we have been in a cultural war for decades best described as Individualism vs Government Authoritarianism.
That will be the dichotomy that defines the 21st century, sadly. At some point there will be a Civil War to sort it out. If we lose...you can bet there will be millions of Americans disappeared...just like the 100 to 150 million people disappeared in the 20th century.
