I was told by an extended family member on vacation recently, "Hey! So when are YOU running for office? I'd vote for you!" We get together and we go off because even though we are lucky and our family mostly agrees with us, they aren't quite as MAGA as us. So we take advantage of the other's time and share a laugh at the democrats, and anger at the state of the country. This man is old enough to be my father, at least, but here he is saying I should run in our medium sized town. I had never really thought of it before.
Last year's school board election, one snake got elected. I couldn't believe this woman won. Our district is awesome and conservative and welcoming to everyone. This bitch is crazy. She is part of a group that moved out here (fairly rural area) and some of these people don't even have kids in the district but are suing the school repeatedly because we implemented arming some of our teachers. I think this latest lawsuit is the fifth or sixth. Everytown is helping them. This year our school is paying an astronomical amount of money in insurance because of these lawsuits. They are taking money directly from these children they want to supposedly protect! Really pisses me off. You come in here, to this place I've lived since second grade, and start trying to fundamentally change us? Hell. No.
Long story short, I think I'm running for school board next year. I'll start the clean up there... :) Then maybe on to city council eventually! Wish me luck! LOL
As a former councilman, I will offer you this. Take no shit from anyone. DO NOT try to be Mr or Mrs Nice Guy (or Gal). It will not work. I've seen it tried and watched it fail EVERY SINGLE TIME. The successful politicians never apologize. They get in and stick with their convictions. You have someone screaming "MY NEIGHBOR CALLED ME A FAGGOT AND REPORTED ME TO CODE ENFORCEMENT". Then you go look at their property and if it's shit, tell them "Clean up your shithole and stop acting like you're entitled to something you're not." Just don't put up with screaming and nutjobs. Which is what you're going to encounter 24 hours a day. Once you try and pacify just ONE, you're doomed. You do what YOU think is right.
